Heungguksa Temple
Located at the foot of Hanmisan Mountain, Heungguksa Temple was founded by the Great Monk Wonhyo in 661 (King Munmu Year 1). It is a beautiful temple next to a luxuriant forest and clean valley. In addition to the surrounding natural landscape, the temple itself is a spectacle. It displays a complicated, functional and modern architectural style that is unlike more conventional methods. You need to take your time looking around the temple because there are many important cultural assets nearby, such as Gyeonggi-do Tangible Cultural Properties, Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage Materials, and Goyang Regional Cultural Heritages. If you have enough time, you can also participate in the temple stay program. Many foreigners participate in this program, which has been in operation for more than 10 years. You can meditate and also participate in tea ceremonies, Zen meditation and pagoda circling, and spend the night at the mountain temple while eating and meditating like Buddhist monks.
