Guesthouse 'Barami Bureoneungot(Where the wind blows)' Near Hadong Ssanggyesa Cherry Blossom Festival

After our plan to stay at Kimhunjangne (House of village school teacher Kim) failed because we didn't make a reservation 3 days earlier, we went to Barami Bureoneungot, a guest house located under the Ssanggyesa Temple. We looked for this place not because it has great facilities or beautiful scenery but because it's close to Ssanggyesa Temple and restaurants and most importantly it is a good place to see Simni(about 5km) Cherry Blossom Road. You'd better not expect good facilities though. Let's see how it looks like.

It's on the big road to Ssanggyesa Temple so you'll find it easy. The building was clean inside, it must've been built recently. The name has changed and seemed it was remodelled.

I couldn't search it on navigator so I searched it online and the original name was Gilsonminbak. Look for the address that I wrote below or you can search for Gilsonminbak

The first floor is a resting place where the guests can read books or watch movies like any other guest house. The owner was a pregnant lady and said she's going to open a café here after she gives a birth.

After a long walk I felt exhausted so I had to put two candies in mouth,

and I had a rest with a cup of coffee the owner made.

I went up to the room and I saw some things that I hardly can see in any other guest house.

First of all, the room using midnight electricity had a TV with cable channels.

And I saw kitchen appliances, a sink and an induction for cooking just like a pension. It doesn't seem so clean but tourists who need it might use it to cook for dinner.

A simple(?) bathroom was inside the room as well but without a sink. Well, it's a guest house so it's good enough to have a bathroom inside the room.

I opened the window in the morning and the outside was moist with spring rain. Behind the guest house, there was a green tea farm and Hwagaecheon, a tributary of Seomjin-gang(Seomjin River). I was told we could play in water in summer. Anyway, assuming from the foggy clouds, the trip would be difficult.

On the other side, there's Ssanggyesa Temple on the halfway up the mountain and I was worried I won't be able to take pictures in the heavy rain……gosh. What could I do? I was there so, I should give it a try!

I've been traveling so long but I've never seen this much rain. I was frustrated because I always check the weather on the news but considering the weather, I must say that I did a quite good job walking around in a rain coat. I say the guest house 'Barami Bureoneungot' is a good place to look around not because it has good facilities but because there's Ssanggyesa Temple and 5km long Simni Cherry Blossom Road. Plus it has a bathroom inside the room.

'Jeollado Sikdang(Jeollado Restaurant)' in Hadong with Delicious CorbiculaCuisines

With Seomjin-gang in the center, the west area across the river is Gwangyang and theright direction is Hadong. And the left side of the city is near Seomjin-gang so it has cuisines related to corbicula obtained from Seomjin-gang.

Corbicula is a clam as small as a nail that lives in the river and Seomjin-gang is the biggest corbicula habitat in Korea. So I'll show you the cuisines that use corbicula in Hadong.

In Hadong, many restaurants cook corbicula. Among them, I went to Jeollado Sikdang at the entrance to Ssanggyesa Temple. FYI, you can park your car here and walk to the temple if you want.

Jeollado Sikdang is near the famous temple, Ssanggyesa Temple, so it has quite a menu to satisfy the needs of various tourists from the whole country. But I wanted to try something that of corbicula, something representing Hadong, so we ordered one Jaecheop Sujebi(clear soup with dumplings and corbiculas) and Jaecheop Hoedeopbap(Rice with corbiculas). Each dish costs 10,000 won.

While we were waiting for the food, two pictures on the left table caught my eyes. It says Eom Tae-ung had a meal here while he was filming '1 Night & 2 Days', the KBS entertainment program. I remember it was about falls. They went to Buril Falls above the Ssanggyesa Temple. I'm a fan of the Charisma Eom(Eom Tae-ung) so I felt like the food was going to be delicious.

So the table was prepared. I didn't expect much but there were various common dishes and they all look delicious!

Among the common dishes, sesame leaf pancake and dried persimmon salad seasoned with sweet sauce were impressive. They were really tasty.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 400 | 2015:03:17 19:34:49 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 17mm

Corbicula is normally cooked with sweet, spicy and sour gochujang(red pepper paste), or boiled as soup. And I chose Hoedeopbap(rice with corbicula) that I can mix them with rice and vegetables.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 640 | 2015:03:17 19:35:02 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 50mm

Corbicula is small even with shells so without the shells, you should take a closer look to notice it. Can you find it? lol Look closer and you'll see clams, which the owner put so many.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 1250 | 2015:03:17 19:37:58 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 41mm

You should use chopsticks instead of spoon in order to mix something in a bowl so that you can maintain the shape of rice and texture of food.

It was properly mixed and I had a bite, then sesame oil made me drooling with a little bit spicy, sweet and sour taste of crispy vegetables. Sea clams were chewy but corbiculas are soft.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 400 | 2015:03:17 19:37:04 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 41mm

This is Jaecheopguk(shellfish soup) served with Jaechop Hoedeopbap. This is cooked with no special sauce in order to keep its unique taste of corbicula and it goes well with spicy Hoedeopbap as well. You won't leave anything cause it's THAT good.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 250 | 2015:03:17 19:35:34 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 17mm

The second dish we ordered was Jaecheop Sujebi(clear soup with dumplings and corbiculas). It was much because it's served in a big bowl and another bowl of rice was served as well. I could smell the chives from the dish that stimulated my appetite.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 800 | 2015:03:17 19:35:44 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 41mm

You're going to put a lot of corbiculas to make the soup taste better since they're small clams, but the soup was deep and refreshing with lots of corbiculas that I couldn't stop eating. Unlike shellfish in the sea, they tasted less flavory but they were neat and plain, just brilliant.

Canon EOS 550D | f/4.5 | iso 500 | 2015:03:17 19:36:05 | Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode | 41mm

The chef made the dough himself so each one has different shape and size. I liked the soft and chewy taste of Sujebi, probably because they kneaded the dough themselves. You cannot grow corbiculas so it's not common food that you can eat anywhere. So if you're in Hadong, I think you should try it since Seomjingang is the biggest corbicula habitat in Korea.
