Going to 'Geumcheon Hoegwan' to have Dried Pollack Dish for this year following Marinated Spicy Spareribs

When you think of Hwangtae(Dried pollack), Hwangtae Deokjang in Inje, Gangwon-do will come up in your mind but Pyeongchang also has it and there are many restaurants specializing in Hwangtae dishes. In this trip, I chose dried pollack dish for my lunch so I went to Geumcheonhoegwan where I had great meal on the last Pyeongchang trip, again. I rarely visit again the restaurant where I have ever been, but this restaurant was special.

Geumcheon Hoegwan is located in the center of downtown 'Hoenggye' which is famous for many must-go restaurants. It's located on a road between popular tourist sites such as Daegwallyeong Samyang Ranch, Daegwallyeong Yangtte Farm, and Alpensia Ski Resort and it's nearby the intercity bus terminal, so it's convenient to get to. Usually in countryside, beer bars are in the town. Do you see the sign of bar? You are in the town.

It was late lunch time so the restaurant was quiet. Usually the owner and her son run this restaurant. On that day, the owner was sleeping at the end of the floor after serving the last customer who came for lunch. The building looks old since I has been run for a long time in this town but its food is very clean and simple.

Let's take a look at the menu… Actually the representative menu here is 'Marinated Spicy Spareribs' but I had already had it, so I ordered one dried pollack hangover soup and one set menu with seasoned grilled dried pollack. Each menu costs 7,000 won and 11,000 won.

The dried pollack hangover soup, seasoned grilled dried pollack, and 8 side dishes were set on the table. Usually dried pollack hangover soup comes out in a small bowl when you order the set menu with seasoned grilled dried pollack, but generous owner gave us 2 bowls.

Geumcheon Hoegwan has nice and simple taste of from side dishes to main dish. In particularly, dried acorn jelly seasoned with soy sauce and fried in this sauce tastes so unique that you can not easily taste anywhere. Have you ever tried chewy acorn jelly? It's very delicious. Plus, you can finish your meal with well-done young radish Gimchi.

The clear dried pollack hangover soup was savory and strong, and its aftertaste was nice. Inside of my mouth was rough, because I had drunk some Soju and beer last night. I understood why it is regarded as hangover soup. My stomach was soothed~!

Since some boiled pollack, tofu, and eggs were put, it was so tender that children could eat. The soup has simple and light flavor so my stomach is comfortable, as well. It's properly salty and its savory flavor is the best.

Rice was very well-cooked as it was newly-cooked so it was not soggy in the soup. Men often put rice into soup but women always eat them separately. I have strange habit that I put rice into soup right away when the soup comes out. LOL

This is second dish, 'Seasoned grilled dried pollack'. Doesn't even this color stimulate your appetite? Dried pollack itself has simple taste, but this seasoning can perfectly make it different.

To make this food, at first, you need to grill dried pollack in oil, then spread out seasoning made of hot pepper paste on it. It's delicious with crispy texture and spicy flavor.

Last time when I traveled Pyeongchang, I had the grilled dried pollack several times. Geumcheon Hoegwan offered me the most ample amount of dried pollack. It has plump flesh that the mouth is full although you have only one bite. Spicy seasoning goes very well with simple dried pollack hangover soup.

As I mentioned above, Geumcheon Hoegwan is famous for 'Marinated Spicy Spareribs' that is made with spareribs boiled in the soup seasoned with soy sauce. It's the Geumcheon Hoegwan's special menu that you can not taste in other restaurants. If you don't like dried pollacks, try Marinated Spicy Spareribs. It's also best for the accompaniment of drinks at night.

Downtown Hoenggye that Geumcheon Hoegwan belongs to has the street of Osam Bulgogi and many famous restaurants stand close together, here. This restaurant cooked with simple ingredients but all the food tasted good with tasty side dishes, well-cooked rice, and well-seasoned main menu.
