Seonunsa Temple

“Have you ever been to Seonunsa temple on windy day? Have you ever seen camellia flower? The flower is dropping like a tear.”

I become to know Seonunsa temple when I heard the song of Song Chang-sik. Since then, I got married and brought my child to the temple. But it was not so impressive as I expected too much. Rather, I was so interested in the freshwater eel restaurants in front of the temple.

It was not windy day, but it was raining. I visited the temple on Monday, and it was so impressive. Mysterious Dabitap has stood for hundreds of years. The huge habitat of camellia on the backside of the main temple was awesome. It would be more wonderful when you visit here in fall with red flowers.

Dosolsan mountain has been also called as Seonunsan. It was the magnificent Buddha land with 89 small temples and 189 temple dormitories when it was prosperous in the late Joseon dynasty period.

Seonunsa temple, which is located in foot of the northern Dosolsan mountain, is one of two main temples of Jeollabuk-do along with Geumsansa temple in Gimje. It is always crowded with many tourists all the year around since it has long history, beautiful natural landscape and precious Buddhist cultural assets. In particular, elegant camellia flower, which blossom red flower in snowy winter, has been loved by many poets and calligraphers.

Dosolsan mountain Seonunsa temple is written on Iljumun gate. But Dosolsan mountain means Seonunsan, and you should pass Seonunsan IC to visit here.

The left side is the road to Dosoram. You can arrive at Seonunsa temple after driving directly.

I am not certain whether it is early winter or late fall. Some fallen leaves let people know the feast of fall a few weeks ago.

Sarira

pagoda has been enshrined on the right side. It is called “Budojeon”.

It is so peaceful and calm. I appreciated it while being overcome by

the atmosphere. While royal family has Jongmyo Shrine, a Buddhist

hymn has Budojeon.

The signboard of the temple gate dedicated to the Four Devas has cobalt background and white letters. The signboard named “Seonunsa temple” below was embossed. Distinctive signboards are so interesting.

I found Yeongsanjeon hall again. It is important as much as Magoksa temple. Yeongsan is the abbreviation of Yeongchuksan where Sakyamuni delivered a sermon of “the Sutra of the Lotus”, and it is the representative shrine of Buddhism. In the past, people tried to move Yeongsan into the temple, so it became Yeongsanjeon hall.
