“Sonagi”, which is the literature of Hwang Sun-won, has been well known to many Korean people. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the representative work of Korean literature of the 20th century. There are many novels about love. But two children who even couldn't confess their love are so pathetic. The boy put the pebble thrown by the girl in his pocket. The girl becomes shy after showing pink butterfly shell to the boy. They take shelter from the rain after riding a calf. The boy is surprised after hearing the girl was dead. She leaves a will to bury the memorable sweater in her tomb. I still remember the story. The writer was buried in Sonagi town. Now, here we go!

Various places in the novel have been reproduced in the village. There are sorghum, stepping-stone, wild flower village, Hwang Sun-won literary house, etc.

Let's enter Hwang Sun-won literary house. The entrance and the fountain are cone-shaped, which have been made of sorghum.

There is a large place for reading Korean literature. I am proud of children who read books on the day afternoon.

Patrinia scabiosaefolia guest room. What a beautiful name! Patrinia scabiosaefolia is a yellow flower that looks like a parasol written in the novel Sonagi.

There are both paper book and e-book. You can find all short stories of Hwang Sun-won here.

I have been to several literary houses in Korea. But it is the first time that I can see the people reading books. Now I understand that his literature have a large effect on us.

This gallery exhibits the works of Hwang Sun-won by creating scenes. I feel like as if I became the character of the novel while reading exhibitions and writings.

The writer must have written several poems. This poem has been exhibited between birch on the wall. You would easily sympathize with the writings.

It is the gallery of “the meeting with the writer” for understanding his life. Now, here we go!

All Korean language schoolbooks may contain his writings. Short stories have been exhibited with their price. It must have been 100won or 200won. Right. Did you remember that there was stamp mark with price in the back of books in the past?

The room has been decorated with the used goods of Hwang Sun-won. I have never seen rich writers. I guess he lived in poverty considering his old fountain pen and razor.

The manuscript written in his own hand has also been displayed. This is the novel, “The dice of the God”. I remember I read it a long time ago. Grandfather, father and two sons live the farm village. One son inherits the family business, and the other studies in Seoul to be a high-ranking official. One son has to inherit the family business after abandoning his dream due to the self-righteousness of the grandfather. You can find society, economy, culture and ethics of the 1970s from the story. But it has not been made to TV drama. It would be really funny, though.

The place has been well organized to make people read books even in the underground. What a nice place!

And there are the tombs of Hwang Sun-won and his wife on the left side of Hwang Sun-won literary house. The tombs are so simple just like his writing.

There are several trails in Sonagi village, and this is sorghum path. You can hide inside the sorghum to avoid rain after entering the lookout shed due to sudden shower.

This place would be the perfect place for those who like literary works of Hwang Sun-won or have precious memories during school years. In particular, it would be great for those who experienced hopeless love. However, it is just a good trail even if you don't admire the writer. I highly recommend it.
