One night at Yeonribdong building in forest of Mungyeong Daeyasan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest 대야산 자연휴양림

One night in Mungyeong, we decided to stayed in Yeonripdong of Daeyasan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest in Mungyeong.

This is a national natural recreation forest opened in 2009, which is close to the 8 greatest attractions in Mungyeong including Yongchu Valley, Seonyudong Valley, and Backundae Valley, so it is crowded with people playing in water in summer all the time.

The travel trend is walking, of course. Spending a night at the house in forest and walking along the trail or tracking course around the forest would be a very happy and pleasant trip as well. Let's take a look around where we stayed.

Map

Address : 31-55, Yongchugil, Gaeun-eup, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do (경북 문경시 가은읍 용추길 31-55)
Hour of operation : Check-in time 15:00 - 12:00 next day
Fees & Reservation : Yeonribdong for 7 people: 58,000 won (on weekdays), 104,000 won (in busy seasons and holidays)

A trail is not so long compared to other national natural recreation forests and they only offer 16 guest rooms with no outside deck for rent, but it was built recently so the accommodations and facilities are new and clean.

The photo above shows the entrance to Daeyasan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest, and at the left building, one-day visitors can pay for the entrance and parking for the day and guests can check in.

When I arrived at Daeyasan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest, it was around the sunset time so I decided to go for a walk the next day and had to check in first.

There are different kinds of accommodations, Hyuyanggwan(recreation hall) that has 8 rooms next to each other in one building and Yeongribdong(row house) that has 8 separate rooms which are 16 rooms in total. Among 8 rooms in Yeonribdong, only 4 houses are completely separate from each other and each one could accommodate 7 people.

Among the rest, the rooms were attached to each other two by two so they might hear a little noise from next room.

The room I stayed in Yeonribdong for 7 people of 'two-storied' style was built in December 2013 and available since February 2014 as you can see in the photo above.

The terrace and window side is not the entrance and you could find the entrance to each room on the second floor through left steps from where you park your car.

I might be exaggerating a bit but doesn't it look like a well-built suburban housing complex? I often use rooms at natural recreation forest for its reasonable price but this is the best building I've ever seen so far.

Another good thing is that I could park the car right next to the building so it's comfortable for you to move bags.

In some natural recreation forest, parking lots are far away from buildings so you'd have hard time moving packages.

The entrance is the black door on the 2nd floor but do not bring your package to the door. You could just open the door first, open the terrace door and move the package right there.

Plus, the building is quite far away from another building and every building has a big yard enough for kids to play right within parents' sight.

In front of the lodging, there is a valley so the steps next to the window would be useful in summer when you go in and out of the room to play in the water.

Like I said earlier, you need to go up the stairs on the left side of the building to get into your room.

It's unusual, isn't it? I think it would be nice to have a cup of tea enjoying the view on the deck in front of the door which I assume they will put a wooden table for meals here considering that it is still under construction here and there.

I found there are wooden tables in front of other Yeonribdongs anyway.

Enough of the view, now I go inside, the first thing that caught my eyes was a big shoe shelf.

There's a shoe shelf!! I was a little excited because it was my first time to see a shoe shelf with a door on it in a room at a natural recreational forest.

If you walk around the shoe shelf, there is a small attic.

It's a two-storied room so that the upstairs is small like an attic which would accommodate two adults or 3 to 4 kids to play.

This is the view from upstairs. The extra room is this attic alone.

Downstairs has a living room/room. The building is newly built so the interior looks bright and fancy like a resort.

Coming downstairs and looking at the attic from the window, you'd see this. The inner part of downstairs is the kitchen facing the toilet.

Available space is small but the ceiling is high and there are big windows so that the space looks very open.

There are a few windows between walls so the air was fresh coming from the mountain.

I'm going to look at the comforts more.

First of all, there are bedclothes in for 7 in the bedding cabinet and a closet as well as small space and hangers to keep clothes.

In particular, bedclothes are covered with replaceable white sheets.

When the guests check out, they change the sheet so it's much cleaner than blankets with no cover sheets.

This is a bathroom. Women must be very sensitive about the hygiene of bathroom but there is no need to worry.

The space is bigger than it looks in the photo and they have hot water flowing out steadily. All you need to take is toilet articles and towel.

This is the kitchen and comforts that my wife was so surprised to see. She started to talk about how much she wanted to have that brand's sink and said it would be so comfortable for women with all those tablewares, rice cooker, vent, table, even a pot stand and meat tongs prepared for them.

The interesting thing is that there was a vent installed above the induction unit so that the smell wouldn't stuck in the house when you grill meat.

Plus, it is in Daeya Mountain where the air and water is clean and clear enough for us to drink so you don't need to take mineral water with you.

There's more to be excited about. There is a LED flat screen TV!!! Most of TVs used in natural recreation forests are Braun tube TVs but there is LED TV here.

We both, me for TV and my wife for cute TV stand, were stunned and took a rest with a cup of coffee. Plus, this TV supports USB memory so you could put movies for your family or videos for your kids and directly connect to the TV to watch them. (I applied mosaic effect since the depressing news was on.)

After a good night's sleep, I went to take a walk in front of the building in the morning. Most of the way was well built with decks so no need to worry about kids getting tripped over stones.

There's a valley on one side of the way but there are stones to stop the water flowing so it would be good to play in it.

There's not much water yet since it is not a raining season but in summer, I assume there will be enough water flowing steadily.

When you go up more, the deck road ends and connects to trail. Take 100 breaths deeply here!

You should find brook trickling occasionally during the walk and I felt I was really resting in nature with shiny green trees, clean air, twittering birds and trickling brook.

The deck road is well made for children and old people to walk comfortably. The trail is not long so it would take 20 to 30 minutes if you walk slowly and the rest will be built completely by this summer since it is under construction.

However, I suggest that you should go swimming or resting close to beautiful Yongchu Valley which is 10 minutes away on foot. The path Yongchu Valley has been well paved.

This is the back view from our building and I can say I never get tired of it. I wish I have that kind of house in the forest when I get older.

Back of our building, there is Hyuyanggwan that has 8 rooms side by side. That lodging is at the highest location and I assume the view would be great from the balcony on the second floor. I did not go inside though.

The parking lot was big for 8 rooms in Hyuyanggwan so it's enough for big families and you could even play balls when there's no car around. Can you look at how tall the trees are? There are full of old trees that are tall enough to make the cars look so small.

This is another Yeonribdong beside the one I stayed. However, two houses are attached to each other so I can't say it's completely separate.

After the satisfying rest and walk, I found the path to be beautiful so I took a photo on the way down.

Daeya Mountain was already in early summer with full of green water. While there are resorts run by big companies and small/big pensions in Mungyeong,

Daeyasan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest is in a good location to see or enjoy including Yongchu Valley, Seonyudong Valley, Coal Museum, Gaeun filming site, and Gaeun Rail Bike.

Plus, you could use this lodging in the forest that has as good accommodations as a resort especially at a reasonable price so I strongly suggest that you should stay here if you happen to travel Mungyeong.
