Mungyeong Daeyasan SeonyuDoungcheonNadeulgil Trekking Course No.1

I personally am a fan of trekking trip. Among the many trekking courses that I've been, SeonyuDongcheonNadeulgil was very impressive.

The trail was very beautiful with amazing shape of mountain and extraordinary scenery of valley. The trekking course consists of course No.1 and course No.2. Both are connected so you could take a look around at once. I'm going to tell you about course first.

The whole course is 8.4km distance including Ungang Lee Gang Nyeon Memorial Hall (departure)→ Chilwudae → Baekseoktan → Hakcheonjeong(end of course No.1) → Yongchu → Wolryeongdae(end of course No.2)

The photo above is the whole trekking course of SeonyuDongcheonNadeulgil. The course above was the course No.1 and I'm going to introduce you the course No.2.

You could start walking in front of Ungang Lee Gang Nyeon Memorial Hall.

For your information, Lee Gang Nyeon Memorial Hall is a museum and memorial hall to honor the works of Lee Gang Nyeon, leader of righteous army, who used to fight against Japan.

If you go inside, there are data on anti-Japanese movement and Order of Merit for National Foundation displayed, and portrait of Lee Gang Nyeon was also displayed in some place.

I could see a big rock where the course No.1 begins right across the street from the memorial hall. You could notice it even when you drive by it.

While you walk along the path in the middle of farmland from Lee Gang Nyeon Memorial Hall, you will see a comfortable road with wooden deck.

My steps were very light because I was very happy with how the road was arranged so beautifully with nature. Doesn't it look beautiful? :)

I can see how much Mungyeong-si puts efforts into this place. I was surprised to see how well the road was paved.

This amazingly big rock is Chilwudae(七愚臺; seven Wus). On the side of the rock, there are names of seven scholars from Gaeun(加恩)-eup and I assume they call it Chilwudae to indicate seven of them have Wu(愚) in their names.

When you look at it closely, the letters are engraved on rocks like in the photo. Just like students today leave their names in attractions, our ancestors often left their names engraved in nature, especially on rocks to leave their names.

Wherever you go in Korea that is known for rocks, it wouldn't be hard to see rocks with names written in Chinese letters and I must say it doesn't mean anything but the names of classical scholars.

Anyway, I am taking a pleasant walk while my body produces vitamin D under the sun.

Chilwu Falls is next to Chilwudae but the water is almost dry since it hadn't been raining so long. In summer or after the rain, the falls drop so strong.

The deck road ends here and we have a dirt road from here. On both sides of the path, small streams are flowing so you could enjoy the fresh sound of water and air. It was really comfortable to walk.

We've come to a place called Baekseoktan. There was something written on the rock so I went up to take a photo.

Kindly enough, the rock has its name on it, Baekseoktan(白石灘). What would it mean? Like each Chinese letter indicates, does it mean sandy plain with white stones in it? Anyway it was a very unique place.

I believe this is the right way to Hakcheonjeong if we walk along the river.

Strangely, Seonyudongcheon River has a big rock on its floor, not sand or gravels. The rock as big as a playground has been worn out for hundreds of thousands of years.

Next to the path, enormously big rocks at least 10 meters tall form a cliff. This is a view that you cannot see anywhere.

That's why I suggest that you should come here if you are looking for a good trekking course as I mentioned earlier.

I cannot show you all, but there are so many names of our ancestors on the rocks. This place seems to have more of them because there are so many rocks here.

It's funny to imagine old people wearing gat(Korean traditional hat made of bamboo and horsehair) having fun with their friends and engraving their names on rocks.

The river bed with flat rocks in it looks so beautiful. It is surrounded by tall and big trees which would attract so many people in summer.

The stones are flat so it wouldn't hurt to walk on barefoot and the water flow is not so fast so this place looks like the best place to have fun in summer. I should probably come here for summer vacation. :)

This is the destination of trekking course No.1 called Hakcheonjeong. This was built to honor the moral influences of Doam Yi Jae, a classical scholar from late Joseon Dynasty era and we couldn't go inside since the door was locked.

So many people come to Hakcheonjeong in summer. There are stores and restaurants where they can eat next to the water flowing.

It's not a busy season now so the stores are closed but it will be crowded again in summer.

This is the course No.1 and as far as I've heard course No.2 is way more beautiful than this so that would be my destination.
