What is your soul food? Tteokbokki is probably considered the soul food of quite a few Korean people. There are many different kinds of tteokbokki. Soupy tteokbokki, instant tteokbokki, oil tteokbokki, jjajang tteokbokki and so on... Among them, there is a tteokbokki called 'old tteokbokki'. It's characterized by the use of flour rice cake in a generous soup. It's not only that, but there's something else that makes you feel like 'Oh, this tastes like the old tteokbokki!'. This tteokbokki restaurant 'Dunam Tteok' has the taste of the old tteokbokki.

'Dunam Tteok' is an abbreviation for tteokbokki made by two men. It's a unique and interesting name, isn't it? As you can see on the pillars on both sides of the store. 'Tteokbokki' and 'Hand-made Fried Rice Cake' are the representative menus.

The price range is average such as 3,000 won for old tteokbokki, and 3,500 won for sundae.

It isn't that wide inside. The polaroid pictures of visitors on the wall are impressive.

Especially, the most memorable thing was this boy, not the food. He just had a cup of water and left the store as if he was stopping by his uncle's house. He seems to be from this neighborhood, and the owner of this restaurant knows him even enough to know the kid's name. To him, his tteokbokki restaurant became friendly enough to just visit for a cup of water on a hot summer day. AS the saying goes that the whole community raises the child, not just the parents, it was heartwarming to see this tteokbokki restaurant play such a role.

It's fun to taste evenly at a tteokbokki restaurant. I ordered the most popular tteokbokki, fries, sundae, fish cake.

The tteokbokki is not that spicy. It's a bit rough and friendly taste. But I think I got the wrong timing because the rice cake got too soggy. That part was a bit disappointing. The sauce tasted just right.

Fish cake and sundae are common flavors with nothing special or impressive.

But the fries here are the best for me. It's full of fillings, has various kinds, and especially the batter is fried well so that it is crispy. The texture is so good that it is such a waste to dip it in the tteokbokki sauce. If you are visiting, I strongly recommend you to try their fries!

Dunam Tteok with old tteokbokki, I hope they will stay as a long-loved neighborhood store.
