I have finally went to Danyang in Chungcheongbuk-do, the place I wanted to go.

First day: Danyang Station - Gosu Cave - Janghwi Dock - Suyanggae Relic Museum - Dodamsambong& Stone Gate - Gukyung Market

Second day: Guinsa(Temple) - Ondal Tourist Spot - Fresh Water Aquarium - Yangbaek Waterfall - Around Stage of the Water's Edge

After planning the trip, I was thinking how to get to Danyang... and I thought that it would be best to take a train wherein I could drink Sprite and eat boiled eggs and where I could comfortably use restrooms during the trip!! So I finally decided to take a train.

On the first day of the trip (August 16)

I took a deep breath after arriving at Cheongnyang-ri Station because I was too excited for the trip. I boarded on Mugunghwa train headed for Danyang (Departure time: 8:25 A.M. / Arrival time: 10:30 A.M. / Price: 10,700 won). However, I fell asleep after 10 minutes because of the train's unique vibration.

Danyang Station 단양역

Danyang station is located 10 minutes away from downtown by car so you have to use bus or taxi which occasionally passes by the station. I did not want to waste my time for looking for a transportation so I reserved for a rent car. So I took it at station square and we were headed for our first destination which is Gosu Cave with exciting music on in the car.

Passing through downtown, it took us 15 minutes to arrive at Gosu Cave. I was sad because I did not eat in the train so I decided to eat first.

I firstly went to one of the best restaurants in Kosu Cave which sells Spicy Kalguksu(noodle).

As I like spicy foods and think noodle is good for lunch, I ordered "spicy bibim kalguksu."

One of the servers asked me if I wanted it to be normal or very spicy so I obviously said that I wanted it to be very spicy.

Basic side dishes were immediately put on the table to satisfy my hunger.

After a while, my "kalguksu" was served. Its real red color made me a bit nervous (because it might be very spicy), regardless we started to mix vegetables and noodles. I could not predict its taste until I ate.

As its noodles touched my tongue, I experienced a real spicy taste and my camera lost its focus, too. After tasting it, I heard many people asking for more soups. Nevertheless, the pain in my tongue could not defeat my appetite so I pretended as if it were not spicy to me and ate them all.

(BUT I will order "normal" next time I visit.)

Cold Yeolmu Buckwheat Kalguksu is what my girlfriend ordered.
It's my first time to see kalguksu made out of buckwheat (it's usually made out of flour). Both dishes were pretty much delicious and were enough for one meal.

Gosu Cave 고수동굴

Danyang has its remarkable scenery, but natural monument no. 256 also cannot be excepted. Cave is easily made wherein there are many limestones. Danyang can be considered as Korea's No. 1 lime/cement producing area because it has plenty of limestones. Aside from Gosu Cave, there are lots of other caves.

Gosu cave is considered as the best cave among many other caves and it is created 500,004,000 years ago. It became generally known in 1973. In near past, it was used as an evacuation area for War 6.25. Moreover, stone tools were also found; hence, this cave has lots of people's traces from the past and you can see plenty of other attractions to see.

Originally, there are three routes namely route A, route B, and combination of A and B routes. However, route B was not operating as of the day I visited maybe because of the landslides happened few months ago. Anyway, I had no choice but to choose route A.

After buying tickets, I went up using stairs. There were lots of people starting from entrance up to the cave. The cave was 1700m long and we walked and moved like one step per 2 seconds. It is written there that observation time during summer is around 40 minutes to 1 hour and during winter is around 30 minutes to 40 minutes.

You should go to the restroom before you enter. There is no restroom in the cave so you better go to the restroom beforehand. Also, wear comfortably clothes and bring a handkerchief or towel to wipe. For women, you may bring a cardigan also.

These are stone pillars and stalagmites. To grow 1cm, this kind of stalactite takes 5 to 10 years.

Those flowstones reminded me of aliens. Many people were standing tightly to each other so it was difficult to take pictures.

Gosu cave has many up and down roads. There are stairs around a pillar. Stairs are slippery because waters keep falling down. Thus, it was hard to use stairs. I saw some people slip on stairs. I suggest you better wear rubber shoes rather than slippers.

Outside temperature is 34 degree Celsius and inside temperature is 17.5 degree Celsius. The average temperature of the cave is usually 15 degree Celsius, but since there were many tourists today, the temperature went up.

Here, the ways are divided into two. First one is high level and the other is easy level. 90% of tourists chose the first way so I went along with them.

Even though the temperature was low, I got to sweat a lot because we walked up and down repeatedly. Should I lose weight or should I not go to the cave anymore... In the middle of the cave, there is a huge space and if you want, a photographer takes a picture of you with a reasonable price.

As you reach the end of the cave, stalactite and stalagmites are getting sharp and big. Mostly, they take pictures right beside flowstonesor stalactite. Nonetheless, there is a collection of flowstones at the end so they take a picture of it. You should be careful at this time.

For your information, Gosu Cave has different entrance and exit. When you enter, it looks like entrance and exit are located at the same area. However, the exit is located in halfway up the mountain.

From the exit, it takes around 10 minutes to reach theparking area. While going down, I certainly missed ice water and I would want to take off my pants because it was really hot. I craved for AIRCON seriously!!
