I don't know why I wanted to visit Ganggyeong. No splendid tourist attractions. No special food except for Jeotgal(Salted Seafood). Even worse, I get wrong information when I search “Ganggyeong” on the Internet. Like “Strong countermeasures of the Korean government”.

Some people say shrimp ships came here when there was a port three decades ago. So most local people sell Jeotgal(Salted Seafood) for generations. You can find the trace of the history of Ganggyeong here. I departed Seoul on Saturday at 7 a.m., and passed Gyeongbu Expressway, Nonsan-Cheonan expressway and Yeonmu IC. For 166 kilometers.

I arrived at Ganggyeong-eup at 9:30 a.m.. I was so hungry that I headed to “Manna restaurant” that I searched on the Internet. I was about to order salted seafood set menu as I wanted to eat various salted seafood and rice. But the menu was not available for just one person. I was so sad. I came from Seoul to here to eat this! I am the person who truly loves salted seafood! Most Korean restaurants don't think about guests. Now single-person household populations are over 30% in Korea. But they are not welcomed in a lot of restaurants. Dried yellow corvina is sold for 20 fishes at least. The world has changed. So restaurants must change themselves.

So I headed to “Mrs. Joh's restaurant” on the opposite side. I asked, “Is it okay alone?” And she said yes right away. She and her son had a meal together.

I was served with kimchi jjigae and side dishes. The pot was so simple. But I smiled after tasting it. It was amazing! Laver was not served, but it didn't matter. The owner recommended one bowl of rice more, but I turned down for the next meal.

The word says, “No food is used again.” I liked it.

The plastic boxes in the restaurant seemed to be used in delivery. Quite large foods would be delivered to rice paddy and field, I guess.

I headed to Daeheung market after the nice meal.

I could find a lot of interesting signboards. Some stores said they have sold salted seafood for 200 years. So it means that the salted seafood in Ganggyeong market has been sold since Joseon dynasty period. I think a lot of seafood had been shipped before the Gunsan port was prosperous.

The stores sold a variety of salted seafood like salted oyster with hot pepper, salted oyster with hot pepper, salted shrimp, etc.

Oh, here is one more thing. This is a typical landscape of grain store in a rural market. You can't receive more grain if you buy a pocket. (500g). But the owners in Ganggyeong market give more after weighing. It is so friendly.

I found an owner who was lying even at 11 a.m.. :-)

The owners recommended me salted seafood. But I couldn't buy it because I had a long way to go. The food would be gone bad.

One merchant was having noodles. He looked so friendly.
