Modern History Museum 근대 역사 박물관

Former Gunsan Customs located in the inner harbor was built a hundred years ago (June 1908), and it was built based on European style usingimported construction materials including red bricks from Belgium. Inside the building, the old looks of the Gunsan Customs and the views of Gunsan Port since its opening are displayed.

This is Modern History Museum right next to the Gunsan Customs. The ancient culture display room on the first floor was common but the Modern History display room on the second floor allows you to have very interesting experience.

As I took a closer look at it, Bi-eung Port's lighthouse looked like this. These cute lighthouses are standing facing each other at Bi-eung Port.

The cannon which was accidentally found by junk shop was displayed, and it was known that this used to be owned by the military base located in Gunsan in order to defend it against foreign intrusion.

Outdoor balcony on the second floor of Modern History Museum had space for us to look down the front ocean of Gunsan Port.

The prices of rice at the time were written on the blackboard. This is to remind us that the enormous amount of rice was transferred through this place at a ridiculously low price.

A general store, a word that is no longer used. It sells various daily supplies.

The bicycle at a rice store and outdoor scenery of a store reminds me of my childhood.

I also used to play marbles as a kid and I felt kinda strange and touched to see it.

Here you could try the printing technology from old times. You rub ink, put a paper on it, tap it with a handful of cotton ball like this and remove the paper.

This used to be the city of rice and now is turning into an industrial city with so many different factories now. The industrial complex in Soryong-dong, Gunsan-si has hundreds of companies with hundreds of thousands employees.

This is a meter used in old times. A meter seems heavier than beans, doesn't it?

I bet they carried the A-frames on their backs to move the bags of rice heading to Japan. It was hard for me to stand up with an empty bag of rice and I can't even imagine how heavy it was to carry 80kg bags of rice on their backs. It's painful and pity that 2 million bags of rice was forcefully transferred to Japan every year.

[Roman Holiday] poster that starred Audrey Hepburn who stole everybody's heart.

I still remember in part of this small train station in the countryside.

I guess people used to turn the lamp with this manual pump a hundred years ago. It's well maintained, I must say.
