I ran toward Taebaek after leaving Chooam. I can see signboard for Hwanseongul Cave and Daegeumgul Cave. They are the famous tourist attractions in Samcheok. However, since I am not interested in dark cave, I pass the place.
You can often see cement plants on the road in Samcheok, Taebaek and Yeongwol. I think there are a lot of cement plants because the raw material of cement is limestone.
I ate delicious bread in Taebaek as my friend operates a bakery here. It is E-free bread, but it is so delicious.
Cheoram Station in Taebaek: DongTaebaengno 389, Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do
Cheoram village in Taebaek-si has a sad story. On the backside of the train in Cheoram station, a bunch of coal are piled up mountain-high. The coal is loaded onto the freight train here, and moved to other regions. The village was once full of many restaurants and it was so vigorous. However, people have moved to other regions after the coal mining industry has been waned. So Cheoram village has become tourist attraction.
It is touching to see a woman waving her hand to her husband heading to coal mine. I wonder where they live, and what they do now.
Except
yellow walls, all road and grounds in the village are black.
Small houses gather at the ridge beyond the bridge of Cheoram village. I think back-to-backs were built to cooperate with each other.
With
blue sky and green mountain, the faded concrete building is standing
alone. It looks so weak as if it was collapsed soon.
Black water was once flowed in the brook. The elementary school students drew the stream with black color in the past.
You can see the report cards and certificate of awards in the past. Those who are in their 50s may call up their memory.
This
is a souvenir distributed in completion ceremony of Myeolgongtap. I
am so unfamiliar with the monument.
One
man of his 50s seems to visit here to call up his memory. He is
descending the steep stairs of the coffee shop, “the sunny spot of
youth”.
The
children went up and down the telephone pole for fun in the past.
This is the place for young people. The coffee shop named “the sunny spot of youth”, special billiard hall and the stores look unusual. It is like a combination of Starbucks and Internet Cafe these days.
One
grandmother is waiting a bus. She may remember the glorious past of
the village.
This
is the filming site of “There is nothing ruthless” directed by
Lee Myung-sae. The famous battle scene was shot on the railroad.
The scene of the film:
The
gray cement building has several holes for producing coal, so it can
be loaded on the coal train exactly.
The
train track is still welcoming trains.
