Korea’s major festival, International Horticulture Goyang Korea

It is a major international festival representing Goyang with over 700,000 Korean and global visitors every year. The 300,000-pyeong area of the Lake Park turns into a garden of flowers, and the main venue, Goyang Flower Exhibition Center, exhibits all kinds of horticultural products from over 20 countries. You can enjoy the special experience of looking at 200 million flowers in one place, as well as all kinds of cultural performances that harmonize tradition with modernity. With the first festival held in 1997, it is growing and developing every year.

A big parade commemorating the Siege of Haengju, Goyang Haengju Culture Festival

Early May / Haengjusanseong Fortress and other parts of Goyang

It is a historical festival held annually in Haengjusanseong Fortress in commemoration of the Siege of Haengju, one of the three major battles during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. There is a big street parade honoring the patriotism and courage of the people who saved the country by securing victory at the Siege of Haengju, as well as a variety of programs to experience traditional culture. Another special delight of this festival is that you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Hangang River from the top of Deogyangsan Mountain where Haengjusanseong Fortress is. Foreigners can enjoy all kinds of Korean culture such as archery and making traditional food.

It is an exciting festival where you can sample all kinds of Korean traditional makgeolli and watch all kinds of traditional cultural performances. The plaza is packed with booths featuring over 200 kinds of makgeolli produced in different parts of Korea as well as makgeolli lovers who come to enjoy the event. With the chance to sample over 200 kinds of makgeolli for free, this festival has become a great tradition in Goyang, attracting more and more visitors every year.

Over 100 cultural performances are held on the 300,000-pyeong Lake Park, creating a spectacle of grandeur. You can enjoy various genres of performances according to your taste, such as plays, madanggeuk (traditional Korean performance), pantomime, performance, and 3D drama. Performance teams from all over the world including Europe are officially invited to the festival to promote art and street performances. All performances are free of charge, and there are also participatory street shows where visitors can participate in the shows with the performers.
