“Tteok-galbi” is one of the famous local food of Damyang. So damyang has a number of tteok-galbi restaurants with long tradition like Deogingwan and Sinsikdang. Some of them are quite expensive, though. Young tourists those who don't have enough money can enjoy tteok-galbi at 10,000 won. I visited “Dalbittturak”, cheap and delicious tteok-galbi restaurant. It was broadcasted TV program “Hansikdaecheop”. Now, here we go!

Cooking contest programs are the craze thesedays. My wife likes to watch those programs rather than TV drama. Two teams in damyang took part in TV program “Hansikdaecheop” on be half of Jeolla-do. Jo Hye-gyeong, the owner of “Dalbittturak”, won the competition for two times, and second place for a season. Now, here we go.

Tteok-galbi restaurants of Damyang mainly gathered around Nokjjugwon. “Dalbittturak” is located in Samji-ri, Bongsan-myeon. It takes 15 minutes from Nokjjugwon. Tourists usually don't go there since it is guite far from tourist attraction. But I visited there because my wife is a big fan of Jeolla-do team.

There is none of guests except us. Operation hours of Dalbittturak is until 9 p.m., but we didn't know that. We arrived there at 8:40 p.m. But the owner got our order kindly. I was so thankful for that.

Here is the menu. The main menu is “tteok-galbi” which is made of Korean native cattle, pork and chicken. Special menu is chicken food and octopus food. Samgyetang(chicken soup with ginseng) is only available in summer. As I ate beef tteok-galbi before, I ordered pork tteok-galbi. It costs 12,000 won. It is not expensive as much as Deogingwan and Sinsikdang, but it is almost the same with tteok-galbi restaurants in downtown of Damyang.

I looked around the store while waiting for food. Pictures of the owner taken during Hansikdaecheop season three are hung on every place in the restaurant.

“Salad” has been served for appetizer. Originally, Gujeolpan(Platter of Nine Delicacies) should be served. But the owner said the ingredients were run out of. Salad consists of common vegetables and kiwi dressing. Sour sauce stimulates my appetite.

Black Sesame Porridge is served with salad. Sesame has been grinded well, so it tastes very soft and aromatic. I can see the class of the food. I am so anticipating to haing main food.

Four pieces of tteok-galbi have been served with 13 side dishes like three-color vegetables and Japchae(Stir-fried Glass Noodles and Vegetables). Two pieces of tteok-galbi is 220 gram. You would be full when you have a meal with rice and side dishes.







Side dishes are light and natural. All foods are moist and warm. In particular, ssamjang and doenjang are very delicious. They are not salty, but aromatic and deep. So doenjang soup is delicious even though ingredients are not so special.

I am looking forward to having tteok-galbi. Sometimes, tteok-galbi is made of pork and beef. But basically, it is made of beef. I wonder how pork tteok-galbi tastes.

It is hand-made tteok-galbi, so the shape is uneven. The color is light, not dark like beef. You can also find vegetables besides meat.

Sliced meat have fine luster. Beef stock is wet, and soft meat is so aromatic. The foods of Dalbittturak are light and aromatic. The sauce of tteok-galbi is not strong, and pork is soft and aromatic. It is really delicious.

You can enjoy more delicious tteok-galbi with sour and crunch pickled cabbage. The owner of the restaurant recommended “the way to enjoy more delicious tteok-galbi” after she served the meal.

You should eat meat after wrapping it with vegetables. I tried it, and it was really nice. As ssamjang is so delicious, ssam(rice and condiments wrapped in leaves of lettuce, cabbage, sesame, or other greens) is also delicious.

The owner originally cooks food at the kitchen. She served a meal because I told her that I am a big fan of her. We took some pictures together. It was the first time that I took a picture with the owner of restaurant for a couple of years. It was a fine restaurant. I have never seen that the owner cook by himself when I visit famous chef's restaurant. Usually he stayes at cashier, or manages the whole process. But the chef of Dalbittturak does everything on her own, so it is reliable.


The sauce of food is not strong. The foods are light and clean. I could enjoy natural ingredients, texture of food and sauce. It is pretty good meal. But those who like salty and spicy food or strong taste of sauce would think the food is not special. If not, I strongly recommend Dalbittturak.
