As for summer vacation, you would think about going to the beach but there are many people who love the forest, as well. Forests and valleys have their own special coolness. They have different attraction from the one of beach.

Taebaek Gowon Natural Recreation Forest
Taebaek is crowded with visitors only in winter and there are quite a few accommodations. Among them, there is the most popular one that you can not easily reserve rooms even on the weekdays. It's the very forest house in Taebaek Gowon Natural Recreation Forest.

Gumunso Pond
There is the only one stream cutting through the mountain in Korea. It's Gumunso(求門沼) in Taebaek-si. Hwangji stream which is the uppermost water of Nakdong River made a hole on the rock hitting it over a long time and flows through the hole. Standing water finally made the hole and the stone gate(石門). Then, it formed a pond(So, 沼). It's still called Gumeongso(Pond with a hole) and Gumunso. This area including the pond is designated the Natural Monument Number 417.

Yongyeon Cave
Yongyeon Cave is Korea's highest cave in elevation. It's the natural cave located 920m above the sea level. The largest cave in Korea is Hwanseon Cave in Samcheok, Gangwon-do(The section that finished the exploration is 6.5km long, now and there is 2km long of unknown section). The Yongyeon Cave is totally 1km long including the 600m-long main cave. It's regarded as a quite small cave. The ecosystem is well-developed in this cave compared to other caves, because it has rich humidity and plentiful organic substances. It's the old trenches cave with well-developed great and small stalactites, stalagmites, stalactic columns, and cave corals.

Cheongtaesan Natural Recreation Forest
In Cheongtae Mountain located at 1,200m above sea level, there is Cheongtaesan Natural Recreation Forest filled with dense woods mingled with artificial forests and natural ones. It's 162km away from Seoul, if you take the Yeongdong Expressway. It has very good accessibility because you can reach the recreation forest with 9km drive for about 10 minutes passing through Dunnae Tollgate.
Trees planted here are mostly dense nut pine trees and there are many wild animals like squirrels and Eurasian red squirrels. It's the good place to enjoy the nature taking a stroll with inquisitive children. The zigzag walking path between nut pine forests is also wonderful place to adults. Besides, This recreation forest is state-run accommodation so it's cheap to stay the night.
Heungjeong Valley, 100 Ri Hyoseok Literature Route
The first course of this route, the Road of Literature is where you can walk on the trail along Heungjeong Valley. Plus, you can take some pictures sitting on a big broad and flat rock and dip into the water when you take a short rest.

Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest
Jeolmul Natural Receration Forest is located in Bonggae-dong, Jeju-si and filled with dense Japanese cedars which are from 40 to 45 years old. You can fully enjoy the coolness in summer because of wind from the sea. It features various facilities including a forest house, forest cultural recreation center, mineral spring, pond, lawn plaza, seminar room, therapeutic walking trail, forest trail of longevity made by dirt, etc. You can spend some quality time with your family or partner.

Red volcanic cone of Saryeoni Forest Trail
Walking on this red clay trail gives you dreamlike atmosphere. You will feel like you are walking in a dream.

Donnaeko Valley, Wonang Waterfall
Donnaeko Valley which is good for having fun in the water in summer is located around the boarder between Sanghyo-dong and Topyeong-dong in Seoguipo-si, Jeju-do. The name Donnaeko means the entrance(Ko) of small stream(Nae) where wild pig(Don) can drink water. A rock face, clear water, and cool wind make this place great to enjoy summer with family by dipping into the water.

Gangcheon Mountain County Park
The Gangcheon Mountain has the magnificent view that consists of several kilometers of valleys, dense woods covering the valleys, and various large and small waterfalls. It's beautiful enough to be called as the Small Geumgang(Beautiful River) of Jeolla-do(Province).
The name Gangcheon was inspired by the founder of Pungsujiri(Geomancy) theory, Doseon Guksa's saying, 'A valley that has the beauty like rolling down jades'. Two streams from the Gangcheon Mountain are the root of lifelines of Jeolla-do, Seomjin River and Yeongsan River.

Uirim Reservoir
Uirim Rerservoir(義林池) built in the period of Three Countries of Korea is considered the best reservoir with Byeokgolje in Gimje, and Susanje in Milyang. It's the large reservoir that is 1.8km in circumference. It holds 500,000㎥ of water and has a water level of maximum 13m.
A trail is made around the reservoir. You can do fishing here.

Cheongpung Lake Jecheon Water Sports
In Jechoen, leisure business related to Cheongpung(Chungju) Lake is conducted actively. You can enjoy diverse entertainments around the lake by taking the cable coaster, cruise ship, motor boat, banana boat, peanut boat, and monorail, as well as doing bungee jumping.
