has a beautiful road. Odojae in Gyeongsangnam-do is so distinctive
and beautiful road. Hamyang citizens call the road as “Odojae”,
but people of other regions call it as “Jianchi(Jianjae)”. The
official name is still “Jianchi”. But the top of the road is
called as “Odojae”. People in the past should pass “Odojae”
to reach Jangteomok Pass of Jirisan mountain for barter. It was
selected to one of “100 beautiful roads” by Ministry of
Construction and Transportation. Okay, here we go!

You
can see an extraordinary road when you drive No.24 national highway
from local road in Guryong-ri to Namwon. It looks like a snake. What
an interesting road! You can find a signpost named “the road to
Jirisan mountain”, and you will reach the road to Namwon after
passing two hills.

Some
senior citizens looked at me curiously when I took a picture of the
village. “What are you taking a picture?”, they asked. So I
answered that I wanted to take a picture of a beautiful road. But
they said, “It is just hard to climb. It is not a pretty road at
all.” Some tourists would visit here to take some pictures. But the
old ladies would think it is just a terrible road. Anyways, you can
find an even sloping road after passing the village hall. Then you
will see the curved uphill road of Jianjae soon.

There
is an observatory in the shoulder of a road, so you can overlook the
whole view. The curved road is amazing. I am sorry that I couldn't
take a beautiful picture due to the weather. But I couldn't wait
until night because I had to go to Namwon to take a picture of the
night view.

A
legend says people get enlightment after walking this road. So a
number of classical scholars and ascetics like Jeong Yeo-chang, Kim
Jong-jik, Kim Il-son, Yoo Ho-In and Suhsan Daisa walked this road.
Maybe I got enlightment, too.

You
wouldn't move to another place. The road is amazing. Jirisan mountain
is high enough. You can find the curve road over and over again. I
think It is like our life.

You
would look back on the way you walked. You will see the first course
of Jirisan mountain after passing Odojae. And you will find deep in
the heart of the mountains.

road. I went inside to drink makgeolli (raw rice wine)

it is closed. I think people used to relieve their thirst and take a
break here. I wonder how the people lived in the inn.

It
was the first time that I saw the small inn like this. I wonder how
makgeolli tastes in the past. It would be out of this world, I guess.

I
met “the first course of Jirisan mountain” in the top of the
hill. There were parking lot, an observatory and small rest area.
Chinese poems in the Joseon dynasty period have been written on the
stones eveywhere.

There
used to be a shrine to the village deity on the top of Odojae.
Passerbys stopped and made a wish in front of it. The memorial stone
of a mountain spirit was establised when the road to Jirisan mountain
was open in 2003. You shouldn't miss the chance to made a wish. Who
knows? Your wish can be realized.

There
is a monument house with small memorial stone written
“Odosanryeongsinjiwi” on the right side of the first door in
Jirisan mountain. People those who had to pass this mountain might
have felt sad. This hill had been the line of defense from the Silla
period to Korean war period. I made a wish in front of the hill.

I
could see only mountain and the sky after looking around on the first
course of Jirisan mountain. I like it. You can find the top of
Beopwasan mountain after climbing the mountain.

You can find a wide park of Jirisan mountain after passing the first course of Jirisan mountain. You can see the main ridge of Jirisan mountain from Nogodan peak to Cheonwangbong peak in the pavilion. But it was raining at that time. I am sorry for that. That is the top of Cheonwangbong peak (1,915 meters).
Odojae is the shortest course from Hamyang to Jirisan mountain. Why don't you appreciate the main ridge of Jirisan mountain in the beautiful curved road, and forget about your anxiety?
