Strawberry season, it is. Soon after the strawberries are spread in the market as soon as spring comes, we start to see oriental melons in the market which means summer is coming.





Working all day sitting on the floor looks so exhausting. How much do you think she would make by selling all those? I guess less than 50,000 won. So after a hard working all day, if she sells half of them, she would make 25,000 won.



Ginger looked so clean like a dried tropical fruit that I had a bite and I couldn’t leave unless I buy some. She said they’re dried with honey and sugars on them. You could eat them directly or make ginger tea.



You’ll find generosity of people offering burdock tea to a passerby.





Paprika was also less than half the price in Seoul.



You won’t find this any other place either. Fried ginseng and ginseng pork skin. Fried ginsengs were kind of big compared to the prices.






She was selling garlics, shiitake mushrooms and self-picked shepherd’s purse, known as messenger of spring.



It’s ironic and funny to see a customer coming to a traditional market dragging a bag with a big-box retailer’s mark on it, Home plus.



This shop displayed all the grains in burlap bags with their tops open.





You can see adonis plant only in the heart of a mountain but I saw them right in the middle of market waiting for customers. A handful of it costs 5,000 won. I planted them on a flower bed as soon as I got home but they died in three days. Warm and sunny place in Seoul doesn’t seem to be a good place for them.





They were squeezing the beehives to collect honey right there. Somehow it was reliable like I could finally buy REAL honey.



Traditional market styled fried chicken that I would’ve tasted if I didn’t have lunch.

An old man told me that he’s been waiting for 3 hours since the morning and I guess he was right. Many people were exhausted to wait. I never knew it’s so hard to get puffed rice~








Right next to the stand, Gangjeong(fried glutinous rice crackers with sesame or beans) were being made with puffed rice constantly popping out from the equipment.



I got scared by her eyes when she asked what do I take pictures of. But I told her it’s my first time watching them make Gangjeong and she smiled.



Nelumbinis nucifere seeds for nerve stability and cure for insomnia, mass of cheonggukjang(fast-fermented bean paste) that heals strokes, and other mysterious medicinal herbs are sold here.



Two Korean chickens cost 10,000 won and they’re really cheap compared to ones in Seoul. I would say that you cannot see a store selling only chickens in Seoul.




A guy yelling that snack tasting is all free and we can eat as much as want. And people are actually eating as much as they want.

Kohlrabi costs less than half the price in Seoul. They’re really good for health, I say.



A woman selling products at a really dangerous place between the market and the main street. Seems extremely dangerous to see her sitting on the road with cars passing by right behind her.

5-day market is one of traditions that have been forgotten. Market places always show us a painting on a sketchbook of an honest and simple lifetime. Places where we used to walk holding mom’s hands as kids and where they used to walk with their parents have remained exactly the same after 50 years of history.
