“Architecture 101” has been loved by so many people since 2012. The film connects the memory of first love with architecture. Suji and Lee Jae-hoon walk hand in hand, and meet at the way station. It was shot in Gudun Station, the abandoned railway station of Yangpyeong. Moreover, the region has been shown in TV commercial. KIM-YU-NA and Park Sung-woong cry out “You are so handsome!”
This region has been abandoned a few years ago. But Ggumdongsan Farming Corporation took on long-term lease, and has planned to establish rural theme tourism experiences complex for children in 2016. I am interested in this place as “Tudat Architectural Firm”, which designed my detached house, was selected to remodel Gudun Station. I wonder how the professional architectures would change the abandoned way station. I will check the changing process hereafter. Anyways, here we go!

You can see typical country village after passing the entrance of the village. And then you can reach Gudun Station at the end of the road after driving for several minutes.

I can see a huge tree called wish tree on the backside of the station. I wonder what wishes have been hung.

The wish of the man in Asan, named “Bomin” is so funny. :-) He hopes to have a beautiful girlfriend in the next year, and live in Seoul. Moreover, he hopes to be handsome and young. Hey! I think it is almost impossible! :-)

There is a huge ginkgo tree in front of the track. It would be wonderful when yellow ginkgo leaves fall on the ground. I will show you the picture next.

The train seems to go to Cheongnyangni, Seoul. Gudun Station was open in 1940. It was the middle station from Cheongnyangni, Seoul to Taebaek, Gangneung. It was prosperous even a decade ago. But it was abandoned after existing route was changed due to the double track railway business from Cheongnyangni to Wonju in 2012. It was listed No. 296 Cultural Heritage of early modern times since it had been built in Japanese colonial era.

I have been to a lot of way stations around the country, and each way station has a memory. I remember that I took a trip by dove line while carrying a tent on my shoulder and holding a heavy bag with friends a long time ago. We had to outlie because someone stole a tent in overhead compartment.

The station is disordered due to remodeling and plant training. But I can imagine the scene that a lot of people expected a trip and waited somebody sitting on the bench.

The train seems to travel back and forth for eight times a day from Cheongnyangni to Gangneung in the past. The fee was 4,500 won for Cheongnyangni and 17,800 won for Gangneung. I want to wait for a while since I can never take the train again.

I found the cut offed track from the far distance from the station. I am sorry that it has not been developed to rail bike or other facilities since its landscape is so beautiful. But I expect insects experience activity for children has been forwarded by Kim Young-whan, the president of Ggumdongsan Farming Corporation.

I have an unforgettable memory about train track. I had an older brother at that time. (He is not living now) We had the drain hiding place. Everyday we walked for 30 minutes along the track. I remember we baked sweet potato nearby the drain with fallen branches. He might be troublesome. But he always brought me to the place as I pestered him to go there everyday. I remember my older brother when I see wild flowers in the track.

This landscape has been often shown in the movies or TV commercials. As you see the picture below, Seungmin and Seoyeon visit Gudun Station due to the assignments in the movie, ”Architecture 101”. Moreover, the region has been shown in TV commercial. KIM-YU-NA and Park Sung-woong cry out “You are so handsome!” :-)
This is the fall of Gudun Station. The president Kim Young-whan sent some pictures to me by messenger. It is snowing during the whole winter as it is close to Gangwon-do. I want to see the whole landscapes of four seasons. You must visit here during the trip to Yangpyeong. I hope you have fun!
