Seosan Bird Land, the place where you can see the habitat of migratory birds in Cheonsu Bay

Cheonsu bay in Seosan is the world famous habitat of migratory birds. You can see the migratory birds in Cheonsu Bay, and observe the eclogy of them in “Seosan Bird Land”. But you cannot see wild birds here. As you know, poaching wild life is prohibited in order to preserve ecology. So, you can only see taxidermied animal here. You can learn their habits with various materials. There are live birds of course, but they are all ornamental birds which can be raised in house. You would better not go to Seosan Bird Land to see wild hawks and eagles.

As a part of the large scale reclamation project in 1984, breakwater had been built. So artificial freshwater lake was created as the sea was blocked. Large farmland was made all around, which makes a rest area in the moving route of the migratory birds. So they visit Cheonsu bay to eat food in the lake and farmland. Thanks to it, we can see the flock of a spectacled teal here, 90 percents of all around the world.

After buying a ticket at the ticket office, I can see large, extraordinary three buildings. Now, here we go!

This is colorful and beautiful building. It has inverted pyramid structure like a sculpture of Musée du Louvre, in France. It is used as the 4D animation theater for children based on the life of migratory birds in Cheonsu bay. Admission fee is 2,000 won for adults and 1,000 won for kids.

After entering the passage connected with pyramid building, I can find migratory bird museum. Huge tree inside is distinctive. Now, I will go up to the second floor, the exhibition hall.

In the left side of the second floor, some art works themed migratory birds made by children are displayed. I can see a nest made of boxes. It's so cute.

Wow! The flock of a spectacled teal flys over the roof at the entrance of the main exhibition hall. They are all stuffed birds. The manager says they are made by naturallly dead birds. No doubt!

Over 200 kinds of birds stay in Cheonsu bay and go. Their specimens are displayed like this. A white-naped crane and a goshawk in the round containers in the right side must be the heros.

Among them, a huge eagle sticks out. It seems small in the picture, but the width of wings seems to be three meters. It is the largest stuffed bird that I have ever seen. Do eagles visit Cheonsu bay? Of course. They come to eat dead migratory birds in winter.

These are the specimens of various birds' eggs. Eagle's egg is located in the center, and hawk's small egg is located in the second room on the right. Do you know which bird is the fastest in the world? It is a hawk. It descends at 320 km/h. The second fastest bird is a Chaetura caudacuta, which descends at 171km/h. Is a hawk a migratory bird? Yes. It flys to Korea in every October to eat dead migratory birds.

There are a lot of exhibits in the museum, which stimulate children's curiosity. Some exhibits need to use sight and hearing. There are many places where children can study by touching while playing. They really love it.

Since I cannot take exhibits from children, I just take a picture here. :-)

Now I am going to visit another building. It is a nest observatory where you can see migratory birds from a distance. Lowerpart looks like a ship, and upper part resembles a nest on the tree. Round hole in the wall looks like an egg of migratory birds, doesn't it? It is so cute.

Ornamental birds tweet all around the buildings in Bird Land. Like I said, real migratory birds cannot be captured. So you should observe real birds through telescope in observatory, or be satisfied with ornamental small birds. It is named “bengalee”. Its size is almost the same as sparrow. As it does not have a difficult personality, it is often raised in house. There are two birds inside. One is white, but the other has black ring.

When you take an elevator and arrive at nest shaped building, you can overlook endless farmland created by breakwater of Cheonsu bay. And you can see a telescope for free. :-)

Natural trail has been decorated below. And you can see endless rice paddy. You can often observe birds from a telescope. It is regeretful that I cannot take a picture of it. You may exclaim when you see the beautiful landscape.

You can see Cheonsu bay on the right side. You would get great impressions on the top.

When I arrived at parking lot, I found a beautiful cosmos flower garden. I was not interested in flowers, but now I am not. I cannot just pass by. I would get sentimental in the fall. You should visit here when you travel Seosan or Taean since it is in the street corner. In particular, if you have a child, you would talk about migratory birds. But you should not misunderstand that it is a zoo of migratory birds. Bird Land is established in order to protect them.

※ Oh, if you use navigation, you should enter the address below. When you search “Bird Land”, you will find “Bird land corporation”. You may go to countryside alley, so input the address.
