You’ll see so many exotic things with red decorations in China Town but one of the things you can’t miss is Chinese snacks. So I’ll show you a few street foods as famous as Jjajangmyeon that you have to eat.

1. Simnihyang Brazier Dumpling 십리향

Simnihyang(十里㕿) means that the scent of frying dumpling spreads to 4km radius. Because of this scent, there are dozens of people who like to eat this dumpling lining up on the weekends or holidays.

Brazier dumplings are dumplings with meat and vegetables fried in a Chinese traditional pipkin in brazier pot over 200 degrees.

They look like crunchy snacks with no moisture since they are not boiled or fried in oil. But inside is filled with moist meat and vegetables.

The most popular one at Simnihyang is Gogimandu(meat dumpling). It’s filled with crushed meat and vegetables that you’ll taste the gravy when you take a bite. It’s quite big that it’s good to have instead of heavy meals.

Meat dumplings were nice so we bought Goguma(sweet potato) dumplings as well. They look like crunchy snacks but they tasted so sweet inside.

2. Original Gongalbbang, ‘Bokraechun’ 복래춘

Golgalbbang is Chinese-style pancake that it looks big but empty inside. So we call it Gongalppang(puffy bread) because it tricks people. So the name was made here in Bokraechun, China Town. As a Chinese family, they’ve made this Chinese pancake through three generations.

The restaurant made us feel like we flew to China in a second. There were many kinds of Chinese snacks including Gonggalppang. I didn’t know what to choose because they looked so colourful and tasty.

After a serious consideration, we bought Gongalbbang, Wolbyeong(mooncake) and a few others.

This is the original Gonggalppang that has 100 years of history made in Bokraechun. It looks quite big but if you smash it two times it breaks so it’s more like snacks. Actually the taste is also puffy. Whoever makes it, it doesn’t make us WOW but Bokraechun Gonggalppang was crunchy, flavory and not too sweet so it’s kinda addictive, I must say.

3. Chinese Bakery ‘Dam’ Well-known for Hand-made Mooncakes and feng li su

There’s a Chinese bakery called Junggukjegwa Dam that is as famous as Bokraechun. Bokraechun with the title of ‘original Gonggalppang’ is actually in an isolated alley at the end of China Town so Junggukjegwa Dam is famous among people due to easy access. But the location is not the only advantage but the taste is also great.

The kinds of snacks were much less than Bokraechun. Especially, it’s famous for hand-made mooncakes and feng li su so that it has 3-4 kinds of snacks. But it had so many kinds of mooncakes.

We bought Gonggalppang like anybody in China Town, hand-made mooncakes that taste like chestnut, fortune cookies, feng li su, and melon su. I would like to buy more but they’re kinda expensive. It’s like paying for Tangsuyuk after eating one bowl of Jajangmyeon.

The most popular snack in Junggukjegwa is feng li su. Feng li su is representative Taiwanese snack that has chewy pineapple jelly inside soft and tasty snack made of flour. It’s not too sweet yet fresh so it’s good for dessert after Jajangmyeon, and yellow paper package seems to be popular among females.

Feng li su was so popular that melon su made of melon was on sale as well. Sweet and sour melon jelly inside soft snack was as delicious as feng li su.

We bought fortune cookies for fun as well. It tastes like just crunchy flour snack and inside it, I could read my fortune in the near future. And it says ‘happy days will continue’. My mood after a nice snack will be likely to continue and it made me happy. ^^*

Bokraechun is known to be the original bakery for Gonggalppang but Dam is as famous today, but I must say that snacks from Dam were sweeter.

4. Dumpling Restaurant ‘Wonbo’ Famous Among Incheon Residents 원보

Other than Sinseungbanjeom, Mandabok and a few restaurants using strong flavor of Chunjang, most of them are nothing different from regular Chinese restaurants in our town. So Incheon residents do not particularly visit China Town to have Chinese food but they come to Wonbo to China Town full of tourists to taste this special dumping.

I’m introducing Wonbo as a snack store is because it specializes in cooking dumplings with no menu like Jjambbong or Jajangmyeon.

The most popular dish is Gun mandu(fried dumplings) at Wonbo. These have crushed meat and vegetables inside and fried in oil, and most of all, they are properly chewy because they are not too thin or thick since they are hand-made. It does not smell of pork and it feels so nice in mouth. Plus, the gravy tastes so nice that is recognized by Incheon residents.

While Gun mandu has been a long time popular menu, Samseonsoryongpo has currently been famous.

One bite sized dumpling has one shrimp and crushed meat inside it. It was another nice dumpling that I could taste of land and ocean at the same time.

5. ‘Lunar Sea Kitchen’ Where You Can Taste Traditional Taiwanese Bubble Tea ‘Zhenzhunaicha’ 루나씨키친

In fancy China Town with all the red signs, there’s a store with blue color that catches people’s eyes called Lunar Sea Kitchen. If you have been busy taking a look around China Town eating Chinese food and snacks, it’s time for you to put an end to your trip while you have a strong milk tea in a comfortable place.

While my eyes turned red because of all the Chinese red ornaments, they got comfortable in Lunar Sea Kitchen made of hardwood. It looks like a cute café in Seoul downtown.

Lunar Sea Kitchen has a bubble tea with chewy Ddeok(tapioca) boiled every day and various kinds of tea that are imported from Taiwan/China.

Among them, the most popular one here is zhenzhu(Ddeok)naicha(milk tea). It’s not milk with black tea dust but it is infused strong black tea that has strong taste of milk tea.

I always thought it had a few tapiocas in bubble tea but this one had A LOT that I felt like I kept eating and they’re still there. Normally, bubble tea is served cold to maintain the texture of tapioca but somehow this one is warm and still has chewy tapioca.
