Feeling healthy with a breath, 'Cheongtaesan Recreational Forest'
At the Cheongtae Mountain located 1,200m above sea level, artificial forest and natural forest are in harmony in the dense forest Cheongtaesan Recreational Forest. It's 162 km away from Seoul by Yeongdong Expressway. If you get out of Dunnae tollgate and drive 9 km for about 10 minutes, you will find the forest. The forest has very good accessibility.
There are many larches in the forest but it is mostly packed with nut pine trees. There are many wild animals, such as squirrels and Eurasian red squirrels, so it's good do enjoy the nature taking a stroll with curious children. Adults will also like this road because it's beautiful walking path shaped in zigzag between pine nut tree forests. Plus, it's perfect to stay over night with a low price as it is state-run accommodation.

There is no one at the Cheongtaesan Recreational Forest, as well, because of MERS that hit Korea. It's pitiful that foolish people don't come to the place like here that is much safer than in elevator, as the press made a fuss.

Thanks to this situation, I could fully enjoy the nature at completely safe National Recreational Forest. I couldn't imagine of safer places than here. It seemed weird beauty of the nature deepened since there was nobody.

I love this Cheongtaesan Recreational Forest because I can stay at a low price. The building that includes many people is highly competitive, but I could accept this level of inconvenience, because I could stay overnight in wonderful nature at a lower price than in other motels. If it's not in summer vacation season, there will be a higher probability of winning on weekdays.

A few buildings are large and has many rooms like a hotel. Other buildings are separated in the forest. However, there is only 3,000 ~ 5,000 won difference in price. You could choose depending on your favor. It's very admirable that it costs 30,000~40,000 won to stay overnight. Long live Korea Forest Service~!

There are also amusement facilities called Tree House. Only children can play here. Round tents are installed at the end of the pedestrian overpass and you can play on the swings inside. Children loved them because tents were in the sky. However when I visited, the entrance of this area was locked, as there weren't any children.

Behind the Tree House, there is long Forest Experience Deck Road until the mountainside. This road is quite long so you should treat yourself to go up the mountain. There is a washroom at the end of this road and from here, you can walk along 850-meter-of hiking trail to the peak. An hour is enough to reach the peak by walk.

It's good to walk up the mountain stepping the dirt, but I could easily climb the mountain by stepping on stairs, even if the distance was extended because of stairs made with zigzag decks. It was very pleasing walkway that there were also interesting buildings everywhere on the road and squirrels were following me.

Squirrels in the Cheongtae were not afraid of people. They even come to near my feet without fear. There are so many squirrels everywhere. Maybe it's because it's easy to get food for them from nut pine tress in the recreational forest. These are Korean squirrels with black lines on the back. Aren't they cute?

At the end of zigzag where the direction is changed, there are buildings with roofs. There are instruments that help children understand nature better. There are resting areas and interesting areas like the house of mirrors in the picture below, as well. It was not boring while walking on this road.

If you are not willing to walk on the deck road, you can go to forest walkway. When you go up along this road, you will be led to the trail of Cheongtae Mountain. You don't have to be afraid of getting lost, because the roads are not complicated.

I met small stream and another beauty after getting out of the deck road and walk through forest walkway. However, this small stream has run dry because there was no rain for a while. If some rain falls, it can be possible to catch frogs and do more diverse activities with children!

The Cheongtae Recreational Forest is the place where I really want to come again. If I pass by other tourist sites nearby or go Hoengseong trip, I will surely come here again and stay overnight. Even during the Pyeongchang trip, you should pass by Hoengseong to come and go between the metropolitan area and Sokcho or Gangneung. Therefore, I recommend you to stop by and take some rest here. It felt like I can be healthier only with a breath.
