Metasequoia road and Gwanbangjerim forest in damyang were awarded grand prize in beautiful forest contest. 300 years old Muku tree, hackberry, Asian hornbeam and cherry tree in Gwanbangjerim forest are standing on either side of the road. It is No. 366 natural monument. Now, here we go!

Oddly shaped trees are making a tunnel along Damyangcheon. Since it is connected to Metasequoia road, it is good to take a walk. Riding a bicycle is the perfect. You can borrow bicycle here.

This is Ttukbang-gil in front of Jungnogwon Bamboo Garden. Damyang has a number of beautiful tree-lined streets. You can see many Metasequoia road, Muku tree road and hackberry road. Since they are all old trees, they make a tunnel in spring.

Here it is. I took this picture two or three years before. There were so many people who went for a picnic at that time.

300 years old trees are standing in front of stepping-stone in Damyangcheon. Trees were planted to prevent flooding of Damyangcheon.

Gwanbangjerim forest is six kilometers long from Dongjeongja village, Namsan-ri, Damyang-eup, Hwanggeum-ri, Subuk-myeon to Gang-ui-ri, Daejeon-myeon. It is famous for wonderful Gyeonggwallim. Huge trees are mainly Muku Tree.

Dense forest is the best place to avoid summer heat. The road is not open for driving, so you can take a rest near trees or under Ttukbang.

River bank makes me feel comfortable. Old trees are full in there, so it's the best. The first river bank was built in the period of King Injo, and rebuilted in the period of King jeongjo and Cheoljong. 30,000 midservants were mobilzied to built the river bank, so it has been called “Gwanbangje”

Damyangcheon, which starts from Yongchubong peak in Chuwolsan mountain, passes by here and joins with Yeongsangang river on the southern west side. Cities are usually developed along with river. The buildings like hyanggyo, inn and district office were built along with Damyangcheon. And there are Jukmook market and beef market in the vacant lot near Damyangcheon. So it is the important living foundation for the local people of Damyang.

We often forget about the importance of the things nearby us. But our life is changed by them involuntarily. I envy the local people of damyang who can see these beautiful scenery everyday.

Here is bicycle rental shop. A one-man bicycle costs 5,000 won for an hour. Two-man bicycle is 10,000 won, and Four-man bicycle is 15,000 won for an hour. I am not sure I can go to Metasequoia road with bicycle, but it would be very fun totravel back and forth for about six kilometers.

Why don't you take a walk in Gwanbangjerim forest if you want to have fresh air? It is the best place both for riding and walking. You would think “Damyang is a really good city” after you take a break on a bench under trees. I strongly recommend it.
