Bangi Shabu-Shabu Kalguksu, perfect on a rainy day

While there are trendy restaurants that are always thinking about new menus, there are others that constantly loved without big changes. Bangi Shabu-Shabu Kalguksu(noodle soup) is a kind of restaurant that tastes same as before and we often visit for the same taste.

It is located in a leisurely residential area. It's a bit close to the station, but it's not a busy street, and it's a little off the main street, so it's not visible. However, no matter it's hidden in a corner there must be many guests if the restaurant is good. Besides, Bangi Shabu-Shabu Kalguksu already has several branches.

I can guess it's quite an old restaurant from the sign with a rather rustic character. There is a notice at the entrance that says they'll be off for 'Lord's day', perhaps the owner is a devout believer. Also, they don't sell alcohol.

There are a lot of seats inside. It was a little early lunchtime on a weekday and it was raining, but all the seats were quickly occupied. Of course, soup tastes the best on rainy days.

Celebrity autographs and award certificates are hanging on the walls. Funny thing is, there is Hayao Miyazaki's autograph! Famous for Studio Ghibli, a Japanese Anime Studio.

The menu here is very simple. There are mushroom shabu kalguksu, hot stone pot bibimbap and Jeonju bibimbap. Most people order mushroom shabu kalguksu. It contains vegetables, kalguksu, and fried rice. You can add beef. And it's available for only 2 or more people. If there are two people, they usually order 2 servings of mushroom shabu kalguksu and 1 beef.

When you finish your order, geotjeori(fresh kimchi), dongchimi(radish water kimchi), and sauce for shabu-shabu come out. This dongchimi is very cold and tasty, so it goes well with hot shabu-shabu kalguksu.

As the menu is simple, everything is ready in no time. They put a black pot on fire.

Inside the pot, there are mushreooms, onions, and potatoes in the red soup and put plenty of fresh water parsley on top. This water parsley is impressive.

So everything is ready. The order of eating is to dip vegetables and meat in the sauce when the soup in the black pot starts boiling. Next, when you almost finish the meat, you can put noddles in the soup and enjoy it.

Finally, stir-fry ingredients hidden under beef and rice together in the pot and enjoy the fried rice.

The soup is starting to boil. The spicy scent smells more delicious because it was rainy. Especially the fresh scent of water parsley goes well with it.

When the soup boils, put sliced beef in the soup and cook it.

Put mushrooms, water parsley, and vegetables on the well cooked meat and dip them in the sauce. The crunchiness of the vegetables, the chewy texture of the meat, and the scent of water parsley make a good balance together.

For the next, you can add kalguksu(chopped noodles) and cook them.

When it's almost finished, the staff comes and says "Let me make you fried rice", then empty the black pot and take it away with ingredients for the fried rice. Then the staff makes fried rice in the kitchen and serves it back to the table. They stir-fry it over high heat in a minute. They got some skill on it.

I had shabu-shabu kalguksu, but the most memorable thing is this fried rice. This fried rice doesn't have any shabu-shabu soup in it.

It's amazingly savory. I already had enough of shabu-shabu kalguksu and feel full, but I can't stop emptying this fried rice. Even the fried rice from Chinese restaurant can't beat this.

It's the best on a rainy day, but it's actually always good enough. Thumbs up!
