Night View of Hwangji Pond's Luminarie in Taebaek, Riverhead of Nakdong River

Where do you think is the riverhead of Korea's three biggest rivers? Geomryongso is the riverhead of Han River flowing to Seoul, Osipcheon is a river that leads go to Samcheok and Hwangji Pond is the riverhead of Nakdong River, and three of them are all located in Taebaek-si. The source of the water that flows to respectively east/west/south is at Samsuryeong and I'll show you around Hwangji Pond, the head of Nakdong River. Hwangji Pond has pretty luminarie lightings in winter. So it's a nice place to take a walk after dinner in Taebaek.

Hwangji Pond is in the town so it's very accessible by car or public transportation. The lights at the entrance to the park made the atmosphere romantic!

It's been confirmed that Hwangji Pond is the head of Nakdong River in old documets including 《Dongguk Yeoji Seungram》, 《Cheokchuji(陟州誌))》 and 《Daedongjiji》, but some argued that the head of Nakdong River is Neodeol Pond to the north of Cheonui Peak on Hambaek Mountain or Yongso under Neodeol Pond or Yongjeong(龍井) under Janggunbong(Janggun Peak) on Mt. Taebaek. But it's been verified that Hwangji Pond is recognised as the head of Nakdong River.

The big sign rock says '1,300 ri(app.525km) long Nakdong River starts here' to let us know it starts here.

It had snow with lightings that seemingly is a perfect place for dating, huh? Girls in red clothes were chatting on a bench, so pretty.

Around the pond, there were LED luminaries installed and it's not so big but seems like a good place for a walk in the evening. Or you could drop by on your way to a restaurant or a bar nearby.

This pond of 100m in circumference has 5,000 tons of water poured in a day and the water percolated through the soils on Taebaek, Hambaek, Maebong and Baekbyeong Mountains form a pond here. The water starts to flow from here through the downtown, Gumunso and Eulsukdo Island in Busan and finally to the southern coast.

Luminaries are beautifully hung up on two small bridges crossing the pond. The starts in the air looked so cute. You would make a nice picture with such a great background there and you would look great. I guess anyone would fall in love if they walk here holding hands, right? ^^*

There are snow sculptures on the street around Hwangji Pond as well. It made me feel good to walk on snow and fun to take pictures with Superman and Ironman superheroes sculptures. Of course there's a clean route not covered with snow behind the sculpture.

I think Hwangji Pond is a nice place to have a short walk after a drink or meal or pass by rather than you set it as your final destination. I bet you could make more memories on your way to your destination. Why don't you drop by if you're traveling Taebaek? ^^*

One Night on Highland. House in Taebaek Mountain National Forest

Taebaek has tourists primarily in winter rather than other seasons so it has relatively small number of accommodations. Even so, there's a popular natural forest that is hard to make a reservation even during the week, and here it is, House in Forest of Taebaek Mountain National Forest.

This is beautiful, dense recreational forest run by Taebaek-si on 700m high hills. Inside the forest, there's a clean building called 'House in Forest' managed by Taebaek-si. It's popular because you can sleep in a log cabin in beautiful forest at a reasonable price. It was during the week at the time but I failed at my first trial so I had to wait for a few days on the waiting list.

This is House in Forest. The log cabin surrounded by big trees made me feel like I'm abroad and it looked more beautiful with snow.

I could park the car right in front of the door so it was easy to move bags and you could even enjoy barbecue party on the table in front of window on a sunny day. But I was exhausted and I'm not brave enough to barbecue outside in this weather so I passed~

Not just outside, the inside was built with woods as well and my wife was relieved because she's allergic to new house smell or chemicals. Plus, if you let them know when you're going to check in they turn the heater on before you arrive. After the cold winter wind, I felt like I went home all cosy and warm.

Bedding is prepared for 5 people. I liked that the pillow was clean especially. The room could occupy 5 people plus 1-2 person(s) and you don't have to pay for more but they do not provide more goods. I rested under the old-fashioned yet clean blanket on the hot floor warming my cold body while I was watching TV.

Just like bedding, kitchenwares were prepared for 5 people as well but some of them are missed so if you absolutely need something you'd better take them with you.

This is the bathroom. It's small, only has absolutely necessary products and it's clean. Bathroom articles included soap, toothpaste and 3 towels so other than those items, you'd better prepare yourself.

Taebaek Mountain National Forest has different types of rooms. This room is the most popular room called Darakbang(attic) Type. Another type is available at the same price but without an attic. Once there's an attic, you can use more space and especially popular among families with kids.

As we woke up in the morning, it was quietly snowing. We opened the curtain and had a cup of coffee watching the snowy forest.

We couldn't see snow this year properly because of drought in winter so we had to take a walk in the forest to see snow. Among densely planted trees, there was a stream, cold but it was fresh.

White birch among green pine trees even in winter looked beautiful along the trail. One night in this quiet and big first is the biggest attraction of House in Forest, I bet. I've been traveling a lot of cities but Taebaek has the least lodging facilities. Especially there were few pensions or motels. On the one hand, I thought how someone could compete with this House in Forest in Taebaek Mountain National Park that provides comfortable and great facilities at such a reasonable price.

Taebaek Mountain National Forest is a healthy resting place where it provides you with comfortable place to stay as well as phytoncide from fresh air so I strongly suggest that you should stay here in Taebaek.
