I visited Chooam Chotdaebawi(Candlestick Rock), which is one of the famous sunrise spots. I was so concerned about heavy-snowfall watch in Gangwon, but departed from Seoul at 2:30 a.m.. I drove the road very carefully. I feel relieved after buying snow chain last night.
I drank a cup of coffee in Moonmak rest area, and ate Dried Pollack Hangover Soup in Donghae rest area since I heard the sun would rise at 7:30 a.m.. I took a break for half an hour after arriving at Chuam beach at 6 a.m..
This is the explanation about Chooam in encyclopedia. Chooam has been selected as one of “10 must-go places in Korea” by Korea Tourism Organization. It has drawn attention from a lot of people after it appeared in the background screen of national anthem. The sunset, red sun rising beyond Chotdaebawi rock, looks so beautiful and elegant. “Choo” in Chooam means an awl. The regional name of “Choo” is related with long rock. Ribanam(lapie), which is exposed over the wave, is standing along the seashore.
The island is located in the center of the picture. You can also see stone pillar which looks like awl between pine trees in front of the island. The stone pillar is the origin of the regional name “Chooam”. The island of Chooam was originally separated with seashore, but it became typical land-tied island after connecting with seashore. The picture is the hill in the southern of Chooam beach. After houses and roads have been built, the typical looks of land-tied island have disappeared. But it is the best natural experience center along with coastal lapie on the northern side of the island. You can take a picture of land-tied island everywhere. The
blue sky has gradually turned red, which makes a contrast with indigo
sea. It seems to predict the emergence of red sun. A person installs
a tripod between the rocks, and moves busily. It is much more fun
when a person is shown in the picture of landscape.
It looks like as if the large crane in the coastal area stirred red clouds.
How
long have I waited? Now the clouds are all red.

I took a picture with GR2, the mirrorless camera of Pentax. It is so amazing.
It is a small camera, which is called as compact camera. But its censor is 1.5crop body, so you can take a high resolution image picture. This is my main camera that is fixed on a tripod.

* The legend of Chotdaebawi Rock
A long time ago, one fisherman lived. He had a wife. It is unsure whether she was ugly or wicked. Anyways, the fisherman had a concubine. She was so beautiful that the wife envied her. They fought each other always, so the heaven killed them. The fisherman missed two women, standing on the coast. And then he became a rock, that is Chotdaebawi rock. In the place, there were three stone pillars. However, two small pillars were broken after being struck by lightning. The story is handed down by tradition.
The region became popular after the sun beyond Chotdaebawi rock was shown in the broadcast of national anthem. However, the sun raised from the right side today. You may take a picture of both Chotdaebawi rock and the sun in summer.
Ceremonies by shamans are held here sometimes. It can be the great tourism resource, I guess.
People are scattered after the sunset is end.

feel thankful to the tourist sitting on the boundary, as he makes a
wonderful silhouette.
The
cars, couples and the sun reflected on the windows of B&B look
even more beautiful than the sunset.
