Jeonju is famous for delicious foods from old times. Bibimbap and bean sprouts rice soup are the representative foods of Jeonju. Many people think of hot soup during the trip in cold winter. Today I will visit “Sambunzip”, bean sprouts rice soup restaurant in Nambu Market in Jeonju.

Nambu Market in Jeonju is located nearby Jeonju Hanok village. The market is crowded with many people as there are a number of delicious restaurants. “Sambunzip”, the famous bean sprouts rice soup restaurant, is also located in Nambu Market. Most restaurants would be delicious since there are a lot of restaurants in the alley of the market.

“Sambunzip” has made bean sprouts rice soup for 44 years since 1971. It became famous all around the country after being introduced in TV program “Three Cheonwang”. The looks are so simple. So I wondered whether it is the famous restaurant. Then one grandfather said he is a regular customer for a long time and the food is great. So I entered without hesitation.

I thought it would be a large restaurant due to a lot of customers. But I like small, but clean interior. You must visit the restaurant in time or make a phone call as it is closed around 3 P.m. when there is none of ingredient.

As it is a specialty store, the menu is only bean sprouts rice soup. Squeez is put in the soup. You can eat boiled squeeze by side dish and drink crude liquor, the regional product of Jeonju. Crude liquor has bitter taste and good aftertaste. It is good to drink when you eat bean sprouts rice soup since the alcohol proof is only 1.5.

These are side dishes after I ordered bean sprouts rice soup for two people. Common rice soup restaurants serve 2~3 side dishes like kimchi and salted shrimp. But “Sambunzip” serves various side dishes like napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi, jangjorim, salted small octopus and two pickled vegetables. It is amazing! Moreover, they are nicely presented and clean even though the food only costs 6,000 won. In particular, it is out of this world when you eat rice soup with laver.

It is more delicious when you season the rice soup with salted shrimp than salt. The salted shrimp in the restaurant is so tasty without fishy smell. In addition, it looks more distinctive.

Finally, Jeonju bean sprouts rice soup, which was broadcated in TV program, has been served. Wow! Can you guess the taste?

The poached egg has been served with the soup. It is good to relieve a hangover with bean sprouts rice soup. I think the poached egg has been served for guest to relieve his or her stomach.

You should eat poached egg after seasoning with salted shrimp and putting chopped laver on it. It is like an appetizer. Your stomach would relieved with soft egg. There are two ways to enjoy poached egg; having it separately, or putting it in the rice soup.

Rice, soup, bean sprouts and other vegetables are put in the bean sprouts rice soup. The ingredients have not been just served with rice. The food is served after the process of “Toryeom(pouring hot broth over rice a little at a time to heat them up)”. You should eat the soup after seasoning it with salted shrimp. Wow! I really want to eat again!

Squeeze is one of the ingredients of Jeonju bean sprouts rice soup. It is so interesting. But the soup is more clean and refresh than meat broth.

Boiled bean sprouts are plentiful and crunch, so the soup is clean. Well fermented kimchi is not sour, but spicy. The soup is so clean and deep without fishy smell. It is so delicious. I love it!

My wife ate poached egg before having bean sprouts rice soup. She might enjoy clean taste of the rice soup. But I put poached egg in the soup. It was so soft and aromatic. So I like my style.

Anyways, you can enjoy bean sprouts rice soup differently by putting laver on it. It was the great idea to choose laver as a side dish. It is awesome!

The operation hour of “Sambunzip” is from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. But it is closed when there is none of ingredients. Sometimes it is closed at 2:30 p.m., and other times at 4 p.m. The ingredients run out of at around 3 p.m., I guess. You'd better make a phone call if you want to visit there in late lunch. I strongly recommend it!
