Gobongsan Mountain
It is the highest mountain in Ilsan-gu, Goyang that has long been known as Taemisan Mountain. Gobongsan signifies ‘high mountaintop’ or ‘lighting a signal fire’. From afar, the northern part is high and the southern part is low. There is a big antenna at the top, which easily distinguishes it from other mountains. It is a famous mountain that appears in Samguk Sagi, which is a record of the Three Kingdoms Period. It was the strategic point in terms of military, transportation and strategy when Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla were locked in rivalry over the Hangang River basin. Pieces of earthenware discovered in various parts of this mountain have proven this as historical fact. Pines, zelkovas, oaks and chestnut trees inhabit the mountain, creating cool shades at all times. You can also look around the neighboring Angok Wetland Park.
