Hoesan White Lotus Pond in Muan

Hoesan White Lotus Pond in Muan made a deck to observe a white lotus, a red lotus etc many types of lotus and aquatic plants.

It is known as filming place for newlyweds. So many photographers have visited here. And at the entrance of White Lotus Pond was made for Jangseung street, Korean traditional totem street. So many tourists visit this place all of the time.

There is outdoor stage which is like a shape of white lotus. And There are also many tourist facilities like grassplot, tend, parking slots, walkway, wondumak(lookout hut on stilts), bench etc.

Seungdalsan Mountain

Seungdalsan Mountain is at the boundry of Cheonggye-myeon and Mongtan-myeon. It is southernmost Baekdudaegan Mountain Range. It is 332.5 m in elevation. And it is not high but it is located beside the sea of Jeollanam-do. It is sacred mountain. And it allows to see the many islands at Dadohaehaesang National Park. and to enjoy warm wind in the winter.

It is famous place for suitable orchid habitat of its soil and weather condition.
Seungdalsan Mountain was called at the time of the Goryeo, Korean dynasty (King Injong 22).
There is a story that Buddhist monk named Won Myeong from Yuan Dynasty wielded the religious influence and his 500 disciples found enlightenment in this mountain. There are many historical site in Buddhism like Beopcheonsa Temple, Moguam Hermitage, etc.

Beopcheonsa Temple was founded by Monk Jungmyeong. Moguam Hermitage inside of Beopcheonsa Temple was made by Buddhist monk named Won Myeong. And there are 2 stones of jangseung, Korean traditional totem poles at the entrance of the Beopcheonsa Temple with humorous and sarcastic feature.

Topmeori Beach


Topmeori Beach was located at Piseo-ri, Mangun-myeon. It has beautiful scene of white sand and reserved forest whose Big Cone Pine trees are making harmony to the nature


There are Tourist pensions and seawater pools to highly draw the tourist’s attentions. And it is also good to fish and go on a summer vacation to the beach.

Doripo amusement park

It takes 20 mins of driving to get Doripo from Muan on the provincial road.
Doripo is a small port with many sushi restaurants fronting it. It is adjacent to the Chilsan Sea , which is located between the borders of Young Gwang and Hampyeong Counties. It is famous for sea fishing, as the sea is abundant with snappers and sea bass.

Recently, it has been designated as a national historic site, with the excavation of 639 Koryo celadon porcelains from the nearby sea. As with other famous sunrise sites in the west coast, Doripo also extends towards the sea, providing a magnificent view of the sunrise.

The sunset to the Chilsan Seaside opposite Doripo port is also magnificent. This is one of the few locations where the sunrise and sunset can be observed clearly from one spot. And this is the place to enjoy the chewy taste of gray mullet in winter and special tasty Doripo dried laver.

Muan Seungwoo Oh Museum of Art

Muan Seungwoo Oh Museum of Art is 2 story building with 1 basement level. Mr. Seungwoo Oh was famous Western painting Artist. And he donated his 179 pieces of art. And It is like modern museum qualifying Museum Storage, Art Hall, Art Shop etc.

Chogeum Naru amusement park

Chogeum Naru amusement park of Muan is like Waikiki beach and is located at Songhyeon-ri, Mangun-myeon, 12 km southwest away from Muan.

Amusement park with 4km long white beach with a pine forest is beautiful gift of the nature. It has wide mud flat with many small octopuses living in there.

And it has also enough space to play for the groups or gatherings in summer.
So many epicures have visited for enjoying Hwareo Hoe(Sliced Raw Fish) and alive small octopus near there. And also visitors can enjoy camping in the pine forest, swimming at the beach and foreshore experience there.

As Fair of education for introduction of infinite beach’s value, ramsareuseupji, the first protected area wetlands, tidal flats, a designated metropolitan park, ongoing professional education and scientific research and ecological environment through practical experience, the knowledge to pass a variety of beach space in the ecological park around the foreshore can enjoy a romantic and free.
And it is also ready to use the caravan for 4~6 persons and auto camping open year-round.

Cho Eui Seon Sa’s Birthplace

Cho Eui Seon Sa is most certainly the most renowned Taoist poet-philosopher that Korea ever produced. As a high monk who had inspired a rebirth of the depressed Buddhism of the late Choseon era, he was also a master of tea making, and was recently recognized as the tea master who breathed new life into the art of tea making in Korea .

In May, 1997, he was re-selected as the cultural figure of the month, and Muan County restored the house in which he was born. It now stands as a monument and as a memorial museum. In addition, a tea culture museum as well as a tea school was established to create a sacred ground for tea lovers. To commemorate this place as a heritage tribute to the art of Korean tea making, the Cho Eui Seon Sa Culture Festival commemorating the birth of Cho Eui Seon Sa is held each year on the date of his birth. During this festival, many tourists and tea aficionados visit this site.

Habitat of White Herons and Common Herons

Sangdong Town, Yongwueol-ri, Muan County is a group habitat consisting mainly of White Herons and Common Herons, which are designated as natural treasure number 211. Every March and April herons fly in from Southeast Asia to breed and then fly back south in October. Each year, nearby Mt. Cheongyong features a magnificent view of the fluttering white feathers of over 4,000 white herons, common herons, and snowy herons.
Along with the small manmade island in the nearby Yongyeon Reservoir, the scene of herons surrounding the island invokes a sense of wonder. The town has always considered the flocks of herons as harbingers of good fortune, believing that their mass breeding fosters a plentiful harvest and good fortune. As a result, the townsfolk have always taken great care to protect the birds well.

And there is a natural education site which was renovated from closed school. It is recommendable for members of family to visit here.
