Closed school transformed into art space, 'Mooee Arts Center'
There was a branch school of elementary school in a rural village. Finally the branch school of Mooee Elementary School was closed and transformed into the art workplace and exhibition place of artists; painters, sculptors, and potters. The playground where rotten play equipments used to be situated was transformed into the wide sculpture park. Class rooms were into workshops and exhibition halls, and behind the school building was remodeled by kilns.
It's not a simple exhibition hall. You can watch and enjoy the works of artists in person. There is also a space where visitors can burn potteries by their own and learn painting. Children can do various activities. In September when buckwheat flowers blossom, you can appreciate them that fill the playground. If your family and you love the arts, from children to adults, you will spend happy time.

When I was about to go into the arts center after parking at the entrance, Margaret flowers came out splendidly. They make my mind wanders before the start. ^^*

150 sculptures made by artist O Sang-uk are installed at the playground filled with fleecy grass. There were many human being-shaped works. Each of them makes a strong impression showing desire of the artist.

However if you are simply looking for something 'interesting', you might feel my expressions are exaggerated. Where I was is narrow space of the small branch school and it's hard to find much 'interesting' things except for artworks. The artworks made here are exhibited at this open space producing strong scent of art. This fact makes this place more special.

After the sweet stroll in the garden, let's go into the branch school on the other side.

When I stepped on the squeaky floor at last, I could realize it had been the school building. In the hall way, works of western painting artist Jeong Yeon-seo and Gwon Sun-beom are on display. The wall is covered with many artworks every nook and corner. The school looks like an art museum.

Even the small classroom is full of sculptures and paintings, now. There is also the interesting table made by artist O Sang-uk in the middle of resting area.

In another classroom, it's full of buckwheat flower pictures drawn by Jeong Yeon-seo. Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang is the setting of the novel

It has been such a long time since I saw reed organs. I remember that a teacher used to play it and students did sing along the play when I was in elementary school. Sometimes students who play the piano used to accompany a song. In the past, elementary school teachers should have been talented in many different fields, such as music, art, and physical education. Do teachers still teach all subjects?

Do you remember that I mentioned in the first section that people plant buckwheat in the playground? Usually buckwheat is planted around late July and blossoms in September and harvested in October. The buckwheat harvested in Bongpyeong is put into small envelopes and is sold here.

In other classroom, ceramic works of artists were on sale and there was small space that children can experience activities. There were many pretty cups or glasses. I like to collect glasses and bought a small glass.

After climbing stairs at the end of the branch school, there was a small rest area on the second floor. Small pieces were hanging on the wall. It's a good place to take some rest watching the works beyond windows.

Behind the school was not left alone. Everything was decorated by artists. There are interesting pictures on the wall and rotten basketball post. Under the pictures, Margaret flowers are full in bloom as usual.

At the end of the school playground, there is the bench called '詩(Poetry) Space' under the tree. It was cozier and nicer than I had expected. I sat there for a long time and felt much happiness. Poetic sentiment will flash upon me while sitting here.

There is an immense cabbage field beyond the school wall. Potatoes and cabbages are in season, now. You can find them everywhere in Pyeongchang. It's joyful to see beautiful views. Potato flowers in the potato field and green leaves of napa cabbages in the cabbage field are enough to forget daily problems for a while. Wouldn't it be a small joy of the trip?
