Bamgasi Choga (Thatched-roof House)

It is an old traditional house representing Goyang as well as a thatched-roof house of the late Joseon farmers representing Korea. It has great cultural and historical significance as an ancient house fully preserved during the process of developing Ilsan New Town. The roof is wide open as you enter the yard, and it has a unique closed structure in which rooms are arranged at all four sides around the yard without fences. It has preserved its original state of 160 years ago without any changes overall. The space creates a generally cozy mood with its simple and plain exterior, and holds the warm and pleasant atmosphere of an old farmhouse harmonized with surrounding trees. Located on the outskirts of the Jeongbalsan housing complex, the house had once faced the crisis of being destroyed in the process of urban development. The name Bamgasi Choga comes from the fact that it was built with chestnut trees. Jeongbalsan, which is an area around the house, has long been a region with a luxuriant forest of chestnut trees.
