As the words 'What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well', it's like a beautiful oasis on the crooked mountain road in Gapyeong. It was the interesting place to enjoy for both children and adults. At night, especially lights on the beautiful buildings are turned on. After passing by the ticket booth, the fantastic 'Le Petit Prince Star Light Festival' is presented. It looks so pretty.

Here and there, people are busy taking pictures of each other with beautiful scenes in the background. At the left side of the building, there is an antique museum which recreated one of the France's top 3 flea market, Saint-Ouen market. With misty colorful lights in the night, it seems I can go time travel to 1920's like the film
At the left side of the antique museum, there is a sculpture of 30 meter-high round tunnel was modeled after the Asteroid B-612 where the Little Prince came from. It seems you are going to the planet as you pass through this tunnel.

Good restaurant with Cheonggukjang of X-File the Food Story, Gapyeong famous restaurant 'Deulpul' 들풀
'X-File, the Food Story' of Channel A is a popular TV program that finds and offers information of 'Good Restaurant' by recognizing as a conscientious restaurant when dealing food. Once the restaurant is broadcast, that it becomes very popular with visitors from all over the country. There was a Chenggukjang(Fast-fermented bean paste) restaurant, selected as the 'Good Restaurant' by X-File, the Food Story. I visited this restaurant late at night.
Korean Table d'hote restaurant, 'Deulpul' makes healthy tasty food. Dishes are mainly made of fast-fermented bean paste. The restaurant was pretty big. I couldn't take a good picture because I went there at night. There are no touristic sites around the restaurant, so it's not the restaurant where you just stop by during the trip. What would be the problem to drive to have healthy delicious food? I had much expectation. Actually it's not that far but you should go around to across the Bukhan River.
As Deulpul is a Korean Table d'hote, it was built in the traditional way. There is a beautiful garden around the building. It was too bad that I could not see the garden very well, because of darkness. You can eat at the table or in the heated room.
When you enter into the restaurant, you can find the certificate which proves it was selected as Good restaurant by the 'X-File, the Food Story'. It made me have much more expectation to try food in this restaurant.
Let's take a look at the menu. Course menus are divided into three; Chorong Jeongsik, Dalmaji Jeongsik, Deulpul Jeongsik varied by the number of side dishes. Plus, you can order one-dish meal such as braised spicy short ribs, roast chicken, and grilled duck. We ordered the basic course menu, 'Chorong Jeongsik' for 2 people. It costs 12000 won per person.
First, porridge made of perilla seeds was set with 2 types of salads. The warm porridge was very delicious and soft with flavory, and plain tastes. I wanted to have one more bowl of porridge, but I kept space in my stomach for next dishes.
Next, the next dish came out while I was eating the porridge with perilla seeds. Pan-fried tofu, roast chicken, Japchae, and seasoned buckwheat jelly salad were nicely presented. Dububuchim(Pan-fried tofu) was the most delicious. You can enjoy the highest perfection of savory taste with it. It's made of handmade tofu fried in perilla oil..
There were radishes and pickled lotus roots on fresh vegetables. The pickle tasted neat and crunch because it was ripened in seasoning of natural ingredients. Each pickles had wonderful flavors as they were without any special dressing. I was satisfied with simple recipe that keeps the original flavor of ingredients.
Japchae was also very delicious. Japchae was also very delicious. Particularly there were chives that make Japchae more aromatic and chewy. All the food of this restaurant has not strong, but elegant tastes. The chef must be the good cook.
This is a savory Seasoned Buckwheat Jelly Salad perilla seeds and soybean paste. It looks very spicy but it's not spicy at all. I had never tried this type of dressing, but it was special and delicious.
This is the only meat dish on the Chorong set menu, 'Roast Chicken'. The chicken without bones was grilled over charcoal fire so it was much less oily and tender. The chicken has very simple taste with not much seasoned sauce. It would be better to eat with radishes, onions, or pickled vegetables. Each food kept making me happy. So good restaurant.
The main dish, 'Cheonggukjang Jjigae(Fast-fermented bean paste soup)' came out. Five side dishes; properly cooked rice, Gimchi, vegetables were served.
This soup consists of ample tofu, radishes, and mushrooms. There must be people who don't like the smell of fast-fermented bean paste, Deulpul's doesn't smell strong. You can smell savory aroma. The soup was not salty either and I kept eating it. It was worth to be selected as must try restaurant in the famous TV show.
Seasoning of side dishes didn't taste strong at all. Pickled perilla leaves were not made of red pepper powder, but of ground fresh red pepper. They were not that spicy, but cool.
I had never tried this kind of dried seaweeds ever. They were fried so it was crispy. Besides, it tasted sweet and flavory with nuts and sugar on the dried seaweeds. It would be a perfect snack.
Finally, 'Dandelion enzyme Tea' was offered to rinse out the mouth. As you put some sugar into white dandelions picked up in the spring and ferment it for a long time, sour, sweet enzyme liquid full of the fragrance of dandelion comes out. It was good to refresh my mouth and healthy delicious food made me relieved after travel.
The food of 'Deulpul' was overall plain and a few dishes were special. The best one was the fast-fermented bean soup with thick savory taste. Food in this restaurant was very neat and delicious that everyone from children to the elders can have a good healthy meal. You should try.
