Estern Tourist Hotel

As one of the best tour cities in Gangwon-do, Sokcho has a variety of accommodations. Plus, you would have many options depending on your preference for geographical characteristics including the area near Seorak Mountain or beach.

Among so many factors including the type, neighboring environment or geographical characteristics, we put the accessibility to other tourist attractions as a priority.

So we decided to stay at 「Estern Tourist Hotel」 in the downtown. It's also easy to get to Jungang Market, Abai Village and Gaetbae Quay.

I had to confirm the location around Rodeo Street because it was a high building and the back door along the street, not the front door, was open probably because it was night.

We got to hotel after we visited Mt. Seorak, Naksansa in Yangyang and downtown in Sokcho, so as we entered the building it was late at night and we were exhausted.

We finished check-in with the employee at the front desk in the hotel and headed to our room that we didn't even look around the lobby.

Our room was on the 5th floor. As soon as we got out of elevator, the hallway to rooms was dark unlike shiny lobby.

Is this a jinx? We always end up in the farthest room in the hallway. Anyways, we walked a long way until we finally got to our room, No. 511.

Unlike the dark hallway, interior was nice and neat. And the room had big windows facing Cheongchoho Lake, not the downtown, as well as it has veranda in front of the window.

It's a privilege to spend the night in the VIP room I guess. There was a big TV, a refrigerator and a small sofa but what I liked the most was a personal pc.

Then of course there was iptv and wifi available so we could use endless internet on bed.

Simple washing tools, eletrical kettle and hair dryer were prepared on the table and two bottles of water in the refrigerator under the table. I have to say this is more like a motel than a hotel.

On the clean bed, there was extra blanket. As soon as I saw it I thought we should've used it to support our legs while we sleep.

The bathroom was big enough with enough towels. But one thing I miss the most was that the temperature was a little low. Especialy it was quite cold to take a shower the next morning.

I noticed a few things were broken including a trouble in the bathroom but I didn't feel uncomfortable while I was staying there and I'd like to praise basic environment like room temperature or bed comfortability was quite good. And the night view of Geumgang Bridge through the window was nice as well.

We fell asleep deeply after a long hard day and the sun rised even before we noticed it. Anyways, we're going to take a look around Sokcho downtown today.

Before we left the hotel, we found attached buildings under the window that we didn't see the night before. It's called 「Sokcho Dokdo Historical Materials Exhibition」 in one corner of parking lot.

I never imagined that I'd see Dokdo-related exhibition there. The detailed location of Dokdo was written in the map on the walls of the building.

But someone said we gotta make an effort to get something that we want? I looked inside the noise-making door but it was dark inside.

Inside the dark exhibition room, there were various documents and materials but I didn't know if it was closed temporarily or it didn't open yet. I wished it would've been better if it's actively providing information to tourists who travel this area… It made me sad and bitterish.

This place might be used for Dokdo-related events from time to time. Whatever it is for, we got it together that it's better to see what's unique in Sokcho rather than just staying here until it's open on this fine weather day so we headed to our next destination.
