Starting Trip

You might think hot floor at home would be the best place in cold winter but there are a lot of festivals in cold winter in different regions full of exhibits available only in winter. There’s Gangwon-do full of ski resorts and probably winter sea might attract you. If you can’t afford long distant trips, you might as well enjoy winter in Gyeonggi-do.

So in order to enjoy winter, we chose to visit Pocheon in Gyeonggi-do. Pocheon is located at the northeastern end of Gyeonggi-do, not so far from the center of Seoul, but it’s close to Cheorwon, which is well-known for cold weather, so you could enjoy the beauty of winter.

Unfortunately, the bus line to Pocheon is only available in Uijeongbu downtown. Thankfully, intercity bus is also available at Dongseoul Bus Terminal every 30 minutes so you could consider taking bus as well.

As we live in Ilsan, it would take 1 hour to get to Uijeongbu and take another bus to Pocheon at Uijeongbu Intercity Bus Terminal, which could be quite bothersome. We were worried that we might be exhausted before we even got there. lol

Bears Town

Anyways, after all the troubles with changing buses, first place we visited in Pocheon is the closest ski resort from Seoul, Pocheon Bears Town.

I’m not a professional but I’ve been to ski resort every year and I wanted to see the slope even if I don’t have any time for snowboarding. Probably I could check it out before my next ski trip with my friends(?)…

Following along the uphill road till you get to the parking lot, first thing you’ll see is a snack house. Then I turned my head and saw slopes and condo buildings covered with white snow under the blue sky.

This must be my first time being in a ski resort this year… Watching the slopes that look like white river from here to the mountaintop, I just wanted to give up on my trip and enjoy snowboarding.

Hm…you gotta calm down…So it was a little early so the staff was busy.Anyways, I was proud of myself getting to our first destination this early.

On the slopes splitted along the mountain chain, the snow was fluttering down cause the staff was clearing snow from the roads before the crowd barges in.

I assumed the weather would be cold but thermometer on the clock tower said it’s 9 degrees below zero. I don’t know if it’s because I’m at a ski resort or the sun did not rise yet but I felt like it was colder than it actually was.

I approached outdoor heater expecting warm air around it then I found out that they just lighted the heater. My gosh, freaking cold!

Most of facilities were still closed including the snack bar in front of ski lift, and in the piercing wind from the mountain, we had no choice but to feel the atmosphere of winter.

We had to escape inside and move in a while. We passed a big bear statue holding skis next to the slope and headed to the ticket office.

You gotta have passion even when you play. At the ticket office, there was a long line of people waiting for ticketing already. You, diligent people…

Inside the ticket office, there’s a corner that lends you skis and snowboard equipments. However, we did not have time to warm ourselves for a long time since we had a tight schedule. We dropped by the bathroom and prepared ourselves for outside then headed out~!!

Morning service seemed to be started soon. Ski lift was going up making noises. To think about it, it’s very attractive to see this ski resort that takes less than an hour from Seoul that we could save troubles of going to Gangwon-do.

There were ski equipments on the snow that will be running through this clean snow soon. Well, everything is just a pie in the sky for us because we were there just for checking up.

All I was thinking was, ‘I’ve got to come here again before next year. I won’t be doing anything else but snowboarding when I do.’

Leaving all of these feelings behind, we headed down the snow in Bears Town, Pocheon.

Because it is just a beginning of our trip in Pocheon where there are other things to see and enjoy~!!
