Magoksa Temple

Magoksa temple was established by Jajangwyoolsa in A.D. 643, who was the highest priest of Silla . Magoksa temple has beautiful landscape in spring. Some people say “Magoksa temple in spring and Gapsa in fall.” Magoksa temple is beautiful in spring and Gapsa is beautiful in fall.

A day of temple is started with sunset. Magoksa temple is surrounded by small stream. So it is good to feel cozy atmosphere in the morning.

Monks have a Buddhist service from 4 AM. If you register experiential style temple stay, you should wake up early as you have to have a Buddhist service with the monks.

Buddhist chant is resonated in the precincts of a shrine before dewdrop is dried.

You can hear the sound of steps of visitors. Given that it takes some time to arrive temple, they would depart before it dawns.

Buddhist chant, the sound of steps of visitors and light in the morning fill the precincts of a shrine. Magoksa temple is not splendid, but simple like an ally of countryside. It was easy to exchange nods with monks. My heart was pounded while getting around the buildings at dawn.

Magoksa temple is more beautiful than other temples at dawn. You may not see in the picture, but small buildings also have verandas and eaves. It is so attractive that I want to visit here again when it is drizzling.

One monk said, “Have a meal inside. You should be comfortable in temple.” I was so thankful that he was considerate of my feelings at dawn. So I successfully made an offering to Buddha. Since nobody seemed to be uncomfortable, I could also visit the main temple.

The precincts of a shrine of Magoksa temple is like an elegant old house rather than temple, because none of altar portrait of Buddha is hung on the wall. I was careful not to wake up visitors for temple stay.

Two red flowerpots catch my eyes at dawn. It is so beautiful. XD

This is a temple stay program of Magoksa temple. You should have a Buddhist service in time even if you participate in freewill program. Special program is hold on every weekends.
