You must visit Metasequoia road during the trip to Damyang. It was created in 1972 by the government as a part of street tree demo business. It is fourty years after the creation, and the street is full of tall trees over 27 meters. To my regret, it has turn to charged service. I think it is the first time. But the road is amazing, definitely. It is must-go tourist attraction in damyang.

You may not just pass by the straight road. Some young people just take a picture in front of the road due to the admission fee. I am sorry for that. Anyways, the road is beautiful. :-)

I found a light aircraft in the sky while walking the road. The word “Damyang aircraft tour” is written under the wing of the plane. It costs 35,000 on weekdays, and 48,000 won on weekends. You can see the downtown of Damyang in the sky. I should have ridden it!

I can see the sky as all leaves were fallen in winter. But it would be a tree tunnel in other seasons. I have been to Metasequoia road only in winter. So I cannot show you the pictures of other seasons.

Trees are so huge and straight. 40 years old trees are 27 meters of height and 85 centimeters of diameter. They become 35 meters when they grow up. It is about 12 story building. It is amazing.

There are some places for couples. I took a picture for three couples.

I saw a building on the left side of the road while I was walking. It is “Honam climate change experience center”. Now, here we go!

The dead zelkova tree is standing at the entrace. 168 years old tree was dead, but its seeds fell between boughs. So it was brought this place. Small twigs are growing up, so the tree has been kept so far. The tree is called “nurse tree for a thousand year”.

There is exhibition about climate change and new renewable energy. Stop by if you want to look around. Not necessarily, though.

Beautiful scenery looks different depending on inside or outside. Metasequoia road looks even more beautiful from a distance.

There are some buildings that I have never seen before. This is a filming site. What movies have been shoot here?

Do you remember the movie “The king's wrath?” released in 2014? This is the place where Eulsoo and King Jeong-jo aimed knife against each other in the end of the story. It is now under reconstruction. It would be open in spring, I guess.

Metasequoia road is total 2.1 kilometers. Not too long, not too short. It takes about an hour for traveling back and forth. It is the best course to visit after having a meal. You may need to have a meal again. Anyways.

Tall trees are picturesque. I picked up a seed on the ground. Interestingly, the tree blossoms in March, and drops brown oval seed. It looks like a small cone. I may habe Metasequoia in my yard.

Metasequoia road used to be a local road, but it became deserted road after straight road business. Some trees were damaged due to the business. 200 Jangseung(Korean traditional totem pole at the village entrance) were made of those trees , and some of them have been kept in Songhak folk museum. I will visit there in the next time.

There are many roads around the country that look like Metasequoia road. But only Metasequoia road received awards from “The most beautiful forest around the country”, “100 beautiful roads around the country”, “100 beautiful roads in Korea”, “The impressive road festival around the country” and “National forest cultural asset in 2015”. It would be worth to take a walk.

You should take a walk on Metasequoia road during the trip to Damyang. Make a heart with fallen leaves. I want Damyang-si to open free so many people can visit the road. Civil servants would know that they cannot restrict people to pass the road if they do not pay for entering a deserted road.
