Yun Bo-seon served as president for nine month in the age of dictatorship. He was born in Dunpo-myeon, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. I was worried about where to go in Asan for the last destination, but I planned to visit the birth place of the fourth president of Korea.

Democracy is divided into the presidential system and the parliamentary government. Korea established the constitutional system for the first time after 4.19 revolution. But the president Yun Bo-seon had trouble with other politicians, so he couldn't resolve the problems in that period. Many people forget about the president Yun Bo-seon. Let's talk about him while looking around his birthplace.

I was quite shocked when I arrived at the birthplace of Yun Bo-seon. There was neither parking lot nor janitor. There were only opened buildings. The birthplace of Yun Bo-seon was originally the large mansion with 99 rooms. But now, only detached house, the main building, the gate section and servants´ quarters have remained. These buildings were built in 1907 by Yun Chi-so, the father of Yun Bo-seon.

I can see a huge detached house after entering the tall gate. Other buildings were built in the early 1900s, but this building was built in 1920s by Chinese. A senior citizen told me about it. Yun Bo-seon was the second president of Korea, but his position was taken by Park Chung-hee right away. Only his birthplace keeps the story of his life.

The house has glass windows that cannot be seen in traditional Korean-style house. It is certain that it was built in the Japanese colonial period. Interestingly, hinged doors and walls are established everywhere. It might be for the purpose of security, I guess.

I can see the main building after entering the inner gate from the yard. The former president Yun Bo-seon was born in the room on the left side of the kitchen. The senior citizen told me about it, too. Yun Bo-seon studied abroad to Japan in 1913, and jointed in the independence movement in Shanghai. He became a politician after emancipation of Korea. Rhee Syngman came to power for 12 years due to the rounding off to the nearest integer constitutional amendment. So Yun Bo-seon created the Democratic Party for the countermeasure.

The design of the detached house is so extraordinary. The roofs of the detached house and the gate section are attached each other.

There is the restroom for females at the corner of the yard. The restroom for males is located in the outside of the tall gate. It is interesting. It doesn't smell because it was used in the old times. Maybe I am the only person who opened the restroom. Haha.

Originally, it was the large house with 99 rooms. But some walls were lost, and buildings in the middle of the house were totally destroyed. Asan-si plans to built something in the area, and I am looking forward to seeing it. I thought about his life in the middle of the quiet house. Yun Bo-seon government tried to implementa 5-year economic development plan, but it failed because of May 16 coup. And Park Chung-hee took the power.

There are a lot of residntial spaces of his relatives in the tile-roofed house with 99 rooms. Some buildings have been reconstructed recently. Anyways, Yun Bo-seon is the only president in Korea who was born in Chungcheong Province. He ran for president in the fifth presidential election, but he was defeated by Park Chung-hee. And he worked for the opposition party.

The senior citizen who explained me about the story of the house recommended me looking around the house. It has been registered to folk cultural asset. Maybe I can go inside and look around for a while.

According to the explanation, it was a royal family. The grandfather of Yun Bo-seon was a large landowner, and his uncle was the Secretary of Interior. His another uncle married to great-granddaughter of Heungseon Daewongun.

There was an interesting picture in the room. It is uncertain, but it seems to be Yun Chwi-dong, the grandfather of Yun Bo-seon. I was so excited to see the historical picture.

When the former president Park Chung-hee oppressed the media, Yun Bo-seon said, “It is the huge oppression to the media, and dictatorship to annihilate the media.” I think it gives a great lesson to Korean society thesedays. Democracy cannot be established overnight. It is still ongoing. Yun Bo-seon took a power just for nine months. But he teaches us the importance of democracy.
