The lotus flower was considered the symbol of light and life in India, and became a major symbol in Buddhism.
The lotus flower symbolizes a life spring, great mercy and compassion, and the eternal cycle of birth and rebirth. Bongwonsa Temple hosts the Lotus Flower Festival, which is one of the Six Offerings to the Buddha, in celebration of All Souls Day (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month).
