Bomun Tourist Complex Site 보문단지

Unlike the downtown of Gyeongju and Bulguksa area, around Bomun lake which is located 20 minutes to the east from the downtown of Gyeongju there are recreational facilities and rest areas rather than cultural sites.

So Bomun Tourist Complex, around Bomun lake there are many hotels and resorts, pensions and also amusement parks like Gyeongju World and Aqua World.

Far across Bomun lake, I can see the Gyeongju tower of Gyeongju Expo and the Air Balloon around the amusement park.
Bomun lake is an artificial lake, so it is famous for a good hiking course, as the walk course and bicycle road are managed well.

There are cherry trees spread wide around the place, so if you visit during the cherry flower blooming season, you can walk around the lake watching thousands of cherry flowers flying over the lake.

What's more, the trees are spread around the lake, so you can watch various scenes while walking around the lake.

There are family tourists relaxing at the Bomun Tourist Complex plaza, but there were too much kid's toy cars everywhere, blocking our way.
There are concerts or events in this plaza, so it's good to look around and on a good weather you can try the duck boats in Bomun lake.

On the north side of the plaza, there are shops gathered up. Most of them are restaurants and the place was also covered up with kid's cars. I think a little bit of management is necessary…

In the center there is the five stories pavilion Bomun tower, the symbol of Bomun tourist site. And there is a outside theater(April~November) where Korean Traditional Music and folk dance concerts are open.

The restaurants and buildings inside the shop complex are all Korean-style houses looking similar to each other. The trails inside are not square main street, so you might lose your way.

Instead, the place has a classic feeling like a traditional village, even though the place is a shop complex.

The Yukbuchon which is the biggest building around Bomun shop complex has a large meeting room with 900 seats with simultaneous translation system for 5 languages, and there is a tourist information center. Yukbuchon provides the place as for various meeting rooms and concert room for large groups of tourists from schools or events.

Behind Yukbuchon is a wide road of four-lane and at the both side there are cherry trees providing a tunnel over the bicycle road.

When you walk along this road, Comodo hotel and Concord hotel comes in sight.
They are the nearest five-star hotels of Bomun Tourist Complex, so it's convenient to move around, but the inner facilities are quite old, so I do not recommend.

Behind this Comodo hotel, there is a waterwheel plaza.
I had found this place coincidently when I was preparing for this trip, and this is the place where I took a group photo when I was an elementary student. So I wanted to visit here once again.

This enormous Bomun Tourist Complex waterwheel has 108 waterspouts and it has the meaning of erasing the the hundred-and-eight torments of mankind and to share the future's dreams and happiness together. The diameter is 13m and the weight is 81ton, taing the record of the world's biggest waterwheel in the Guinness Book.

The waterwheel is located with the parking lot, right next to the road that heads to Bomun Tourist Complex from the downtown. Near the waterwheel are many shop complexes and a convenient store, a bicycle rent shop so it's good to take a rest and the mobility is good.

Bomun Tourist Complex is a resting area with lots of entertainments, rather than attractions, so it's popular to both citizens and tourists. If you find your accommodation around here, you will enjoy a efficient and comfortable trip.

Daemyeong Resort Gyeongju 대명리조트 경주

We decided to go to our accommodation and check-in, since it was past 5 in the afternoon when we finished looking around Bomun Tourist Complex.

There are many five-star hotels and resorts around Bomun lake, but among those the one who have good quilities are Hilton Hotel and Hyundai Hotel, Daemyeong Resort, Hanhwa Resort and Bluewon Resort.

As most of them are, the weekend prices are double compared to the prices during the week. That's why we have to travel during the week, but the time doesn't permit that.

We had planned this trip very busily to Saturday, so we worried about our accommodation, but luckily we managed to reserve Daemyeong Resort.

The check-in time of Daemyeong Resort is 15:00 ~ 22:00, and we should check-out by 11:00 the next morning. Unfortunately, because we checked in late, we failed to have a room we a lake view.

After the check-in process was finished at the information desk on the first floor, we headed to our room to put our baggage in.

Bomun lake that is seen trough the elevator.
'I guess the lake view rooms may be able to watch this scene all the time.'
I envied those rooms because I expected the sunset and sunrise view will be spectacular, but we couldn't do anything…

Daemyeong Resort Gyeongju is divided into east building and west building, and our room was west room 1008. The furthest room from the elevator. Today is our walking day, I guess.

As we went in to the room, the tidy room welcomed us. We have two choices, Korean(Korean floor heating system) and Western(room with bed). We chose a Western room that has a double bed and another small room.

In the room there is a terrace and a double bed, and a TV, air conditioner and a simple dressing table.

In the kitchen there are simple cooking ware and a hot plate, pressure rice cooker and dishes well placed. But we will only eat ramen so we didn't really need these…

“Ohh… These people shouldn't play with these stuff.” I was surprised by this. And 5 people here… I don't think it's right…

I went out the Balcony and found that this side's view with green cherry trees is also not bad, even though it's not lake view.

In the bathroom there were a shower booth and 4 towels, soap, shampoo, body wash basically prepared.

In the refrigerator… it's empty~~!!! Not even a common mineral water in here. The two water bottles are the ones we had brought. I think we should buy some when we go out later.

We put down our baggage and came down with only our camera in my hand. We spotted an aqua world of the resort on our way down, but because the weather is soso to play here, there were not many people.

Aqua wirld is able to enter on the first floor, and the entrance fee is 23,000~33,000 won for one adult. The hot spring Sauna fee is 8,000won.

There are additional facilities like Starbucks and Baskin Robbins around the front desk on the first floor, so you can enjoy coffee.

There is a place where you can purchase toys or souvenior near the elevator.

On the underground floor, there is a mart where you can buy food and drinks, daily necessities…

There are also Korean restaurant and roasted food specialty store, chicken specialty stores so you can have meal here, not need to go out far.

After looking around the entire resort, I think that we had a good choice to take Daemyeong resort Gyeongju to be our accommodation, because the distance between the attractions inside Bomun Tourist Complex is short. Also there are various additional facilities in the resort.
But on the other hand, we figured out that many of the accommodation facilities around Bomun Tourist Complex are quite old. It's because this tourist site's history is since the 80's, along with the accommodations.

So I guess the motels in the downtown might be rather more reasonable with good quality than the accommodations here, especially to young people. Except some special hotels and resorts around here.
