Janghang Wetland

Janghang Wetland is a natural wetland along the Hangang River between Jayuro JC (Singok Submerged Weir) and Ilsandaegyo Bridge. It has an area of 7.49㎡ and is 2.5 times bigger than Yeouido. The wetland preserves the natural ecosystem and was designated as a national wetland protection area by the Ministry of Environment in April 2006. The first thing you see here is a willow forest. Known as Korea’s biggest willow habitat, this place emits an average amount of oxygen of 3697 tons per year. Moles, black-striped field mice, Eurasian harvest mice, racoons, leopard cats, water deers, and finless porpoises inhabit the wetland. According to the monitoring, hearing and literature review before 2013, reed voles, weasels and spotted seals are also found in the area. In particular, Janghang Wetland is a place visited by tens of thousands of migratory birds every year. The most typical species are bean geese and white-fronted geese. The Hangang River estuary is visited by nearly 20,000 bean geese (Class 2 endangered species), the number of which is slowly decreasing due to the recent urban expansion. But bean geese make up the biggest proportion of birds that visit Janghang Wetland.

Opening hours

Entrance is allowed only for those permitted by the Han River Basin Environmental Office and 9th Infantry Division. You can enter only during specific hours, so you must apply for entrance permission to the Han River Basin Environmental Office and 9th Infantry Division at least 15 days in advance to go through the permission procedure.
