Magnificent view in four seasons, Eco Green Campus (Former Daegwalleyong Samyang Ranch)

Recently, the title of Daegwalleyong Samyang Ranch was changed into 'Eco Green Campus'. I occasionally visit here when heavy snow falls in winter, but I didn't see the summer view with my own eyes. It has all different views along the seasons, so you can watch beautiful views whenever you go. There are wild flowers in full bloom in spring, the choppy waters of pasture by wind in summer, splendid autumn colors along the valley of ranch in fall, and endless snow world in winter.

The Eco Green Campus is 6 million-pyeong of the largest green pasture in the Asia which is 7.5 times bigger than Yeoeuido and 1/5,000 of South Korea. 900 beef cattle and milk cows grow up here and it's so large that there are many spots that don't have footprints of cows in a year. If you can see cows and sheep droving performance, it means you have very good luck. Sometimes cows are not put to grass. The performance of sheep droving is occasionally closed even under the good weather. The day when I visited was like that. I appreciated only natural landscape.

Here is the entrance of Daegwallyeong Samyang Ranch, no, Eco Green Campus. It's 850m above sea level. If you get to the top of mountain where the East Sea Observatory is, you will be 1,140m above sea level. It's the enormous place that you should go up 550m by car.

But don't worry. We have shuttle bus. The shuttle bus operates every 30 minutes only from May to November. In other seasons, you can reach the top of the mountain by car or walk. The bus goes up nonstop to the top and stops 4 times on the way down. It would be good to watch the view coming down after you get off the bus.

From the entrance, the bus ran for about 20 minutes without stop to the top where the East Sea Observatory is. In the right side of the picture, there is the East Sea Observatory on wooden deck. It's located on 1,140m above sea level. It had so wide view that I felt refreshed at my heart, even though there was no shade of tree.

From the observatory, you will see Jumunjin, Gangneung, and Gyeongpo Lake far away. If the weather was nicer, I could see further. What a pity. It's great to see sunrise celebrating new year on January 1 st. I remember the time that I had icicle on my nose in 30 degrees below zero.

Nearby the summit, wind turbines are installed everywhere on Baekdudaegan Mountains. The wind turbines became the trademark of Daegwallyeong. Bzz~ It's loudly powered. There are totally 53 turbines. The wind is so strong that they offer electricity to 50,000 households, 60% of Gangneung's households.

Do you know why I show you this picture that doesn't have beautiful view? I would like to show you how much snow falls in winter here. Around the summit is covered with incredible amount of snow.

Like this. It would be hard to tell how high it is, but snow set aside piled up 3-4m which was much higher than height of adult men. The wind was so strong that trees lean to the left. It was very cold and windy but the winter view of here is the most beautiful.

The coming down shuttle bus also operates every 30 minutes. Let's go down along the wooden fence road. Total distance of downward way is 4.5km. It's written on the sign that it takes 80 minutes but actually it takes two or two and half hours with many steep downhills and uphills. Therefore, it would be good to use a few shuttle buses that stop 4 times in the middle point.

Walking along the wooden fence road, you can often find benches under the shade to take some rest. I was the only person who was walking. Only at the summit was crowded. The wooden fence way was almost empty. As if all the world is mine, I went down humming lululala.

I came down a little bit and liked that there were not many people. Green grass swaying by summer wind by the road seemed so beautiful. All the grass here has been raised since 2011 in the organic livestock way. Agricultural chemicals are not used at all. Cows and sheep were grazing natural grass. 'Eco Green' must be prefixed to the name because of this way.

Downhill road was composed of dirt roads and wooden decks but its slope was very steep. If your knees are not healthy, it would be better to take a shuttle bus. If you go down half way, there is no way to go back. If you go back to shuttle bus stop, you need to climb uphill again that you went down or to keep walking down. It could be physically demanding.

I'm still young that my knees are healthy. My calves are little hurt but it was tolerable. The meadow by the road seemed like a french plain. Doesn't it look pretty exotic?

I came down about 1.5km from the summit and saw a large tree. This tree appeared on film and dram . I looked all around and found wonderful view. I remember the time when I came here in the winter a few years ago. I couldn't walk this road because snow fell so much as calf-deep in snow.

This picture is what I took from this Lover's Concerto tree in the winter. A meter of wooden fences were buried by snow so it was hard to walk through. But I found winter had its own beauty, as well.

I came down wondering if I could see cows were grazing, but there was nothing on the way and was only meadow. I think it depends on just pure luck. I asked the manager and he told me that he couldn't make head nor tail of when cows are put to the grass or not. Thankfully many sheep in the sheep pasture comforted the miss. All the sheep grazing with their head down in the pasture were very cute.

The performance of sheep droving by dog is held 3 times everyday, but on the day when I visited, all the performances were canceled. Usually the performance is canceled in a rainy day but the weather of that day was nice.. I heard that it is very exciting performance. I felt something was missing because I didn't see it, but I mollified my disappointment feeding the ostrich.

Walking down along the beautiful road from pasture of ostrich, there is an experience site that you can feed sheep. All the big sheep were grazing in the pasture, lambs were eating hay. You don't have to buy hay. You can heap it up and feed them as much as you want.

Children are scared of big sheep, but these are lambs that children love them. There are many people that it seems here is the popular spot. I gave them a handful of food, but they didn't fight and ate the food very well. I was happy due to them. Interestingly, they didn't eat the food that was dropped on the ground. Thank you guys, I was pleasant due to you~~~

I came down to the square where we went up by shuttle bus. It took about 2 hours watching the view. I have been to several ranches in Daegwallyeong, but the Eco Green Campus is the only one that made me always satisfied. I like that there are many rest areas and shuttle bus operates. The best thing is there are many 'attractions'. It would have been better to see a herd of cattle feeding on grass, but I had to take a rain check.
