Look and Walk Summer 2015 Feature Article

As summer comes, everyone starts to have pleasant worries pondering where to go, sea? Or quiet and beautiful valley?

There might be a few places where you've never visited or you have unforgettable good memories. Today, I would like to make a summary of places to spend time for summer vacation among our journeys.

1. Where to go – Sea

No matter what people say, enjoying in the sea is the best in summer. Is there any places to take out your bathing suit put deeply inside the wardrobe all year, without sea? The sand of hot beach is the best place to burn or recollect your youth.

Busan Haeundae

  • Start
  •
  • Haeundae
  •
  • Finish

Typical city of summer, Busan. There is the most famous summer attraction of Busan, Haeundae.
Is there any attraction that makes harmony with city and beach bustling as much as Haeundae?
The Haeundae should be the only place where many hotels, shopping malls, theaters, and clubs gather together in close distances.

In these days, it takes only 3 hours by KTX from Seoul to Busan. It's easier to go visit compared to the past. You can easily go to Haeundae by bus, subway, etc. Nearby the beach, there are Sinsegye department store which is the most largest in the world, Nurimaru APEC House that held APEC conference, Dalmaji hill to the north, Songjeong beach, Haedong Yonggung Temple located on the cliff of the beach, Gwangan bridge which is the specialty of Busan to the south, and Gwanganri Beach. It's the good place to meaningfully look around.

  • Gujora Beach

Geoje Island is the second largest island in Korea. It's the largest island among ones in the southern coast of Korea. However if you make a loose travel plan for this island, you may spend a whole day on winding roads in the mountain. It's huge and wide so you need to make an elaborate travel plan.

Myeongsa Beach

Myeongsa Beach has gotten its name because grains of sand are nice soft like silk. Water level of the beach is not deep and you can dig manila clams in one side.

I heard the problem that people mainly visit the beach for digging the clams instead of sea-bathing arose.

Location : Myeongsa Beach, Nambu-myeon, Geoje-si

Hakdong Mongdol Beach

Beaches covered with round pebbles instead of sand are commonly called as 'Mongdol' beach. The second crowded beach in Geoje Island is this Hakdong Mondol Beach. It has quite quiet and well-drained pebble field so it's not required to make a waterway when installing tents.

Gujora Beach

Two top beaches in Geoje Island is Gujora Beach, as well as Hakdong Mongdol Beach. Their sands are so soft and water is clear. They have beautiful view with small islands lining up near the coastline.
Gujora Beach used to be used by the US army, as prison camp was situated in Geoje Island after the Korean War. After several decades, there are still more foreign visitors than Koreans.

This bridge was the symbol of 70's public construction. After that, Samcheonpo Bridge that connects Namhae and Sacheon was built in 2003. It eased transportation and attracts many visitors.

Sangju Silver Sand Beach

It's introduced that Sangju Silver Sand Beach has every condition. It includes sandy beach in round, soft sand, clear water, and islands before me. When you look at fine sand of the sandy beach, you will understand why it's called as Silver Sand Beach. Fragments of clam shells are mixed in pieces among very fine bright sand. They make the beach clearer and purer.
