“Beach Center”, the sushi restaurant in sandy beach port of Anmyeondo island

Daeha is in the season!


Daeha festival is held every year in sandy beach port, Anmyeondo island, Taean. It will be held from 9, October to 1, November. It is the largest Daeha festival in the country, as most Daeha is captured in sandy beach port, Anmyeondo island. It is cheap, and blue crab is in the season. So you can enjoy a lot of seafood. There are many sushi restaurants around port, but I chose “Beach Center”. Sushi restaurants may not so special, but you can see glittering ships and eat various seafood there. Now, here we go!

Blue crab bridge, which is a trademark of sandy beach port, looks different at nigt. It is being lightened.

The color of lighting changes as time goes on. It is so beautiful while seeing on pitching ship. Since I want to see this landscape as it is, I am going to enter “Beach Center”.

It seems to be the largest sushi restaurant around here. There are two buildings. “Original Jeolla-do” is written on signboard, but the owner is from Gyeongsang provinces. As I speak Gyeongsang-do dialect, he asks where I came from. He says he would serve special service as we are from the same district. I wonder what it is. Haha.

Let's see the menu. Since I visited here, I must eat seafood in season, huh? I ordered grilled jumbo shrimp and spicy blue crab soup. Both of them are written as “market price” on menu. The price changes everyday. Blue crab soup and grilled jumbo shrimp both costed 60,000 won on that day. Sometimes, they cost 40,000 won.

As I wanted to take a picture of blue crab bridge as it is, I chose the second floor. Lightened ships and bridge are so beautiful in fact. But it seems weird in the pictures. It is awesome if you see them on your own.



Like other sushi restaurants, side dishes are served neatly. There are deep-fried shrimp and huge braised jumbo shrimps. Crustaceans are always delicious. Whatever they are!



What is this? It seems to be the food in Thailand or Vietnam. There is boiled glutinous rice inside the leaves of banana. Rambutan has been also served, so they seem to be imported from southeast Asian nations. I remember that I ate away a sack of Rambutan at night during the trip to Indonesia. It is sweet and chewy.

Three side dishes, which are decorated as round shape, have been served. Sea squirt, sea cucumber and conger sashimi. I was sorry that I didn't order sashimi, but the owner read my mind.

Grilled jumbo shrimp has been served finally. I may have to say salted Daeha as salt is put below. Anyways, they are all alive. It seems to be about 30 per one kilogram. It is more than I thought. Alive Daeha is farmed, but dead one is wild. They have pros and cons. Farmed Daeha is fresh, and wild one is dead. The price gap is just 5,000 won for one kilogram. I like alive farmed Daeha. As they are not professional, common people cannot distinguish the taste.

As they calm down, they turn into red. It is well done. It looks so inviting as they are coated with salt.

I peeled the shrimp one by one. But I peeled them at once as I feel annoyed. Now, I am going to put them in my mouth. Unfortunately, however, I cannot drink alcohole as I have to drive. I can drink 100 bottles of Soju with this side dish.

I have eaten a lot of imported shrimps so far, but domestic ones are the best. As they are in season, they are so sweet and delicious. :-) Since I ordered a lot, I am going to eat seafood only again.

Do you know which part of Daeha is the most delicious? It is a head, definitely. When you mix boiled rice with guts of blue crab in its carapace, it makes amazing taste. Daeha is the same. Personally, I like the head rather than the body. Grab the end of its mouth, and pull on the head. You can peel the shrimp easaily. You must try this! Maybe you will love it.

Spicy blue crab soup has been served at this time. It is the best timing as I wanted to eat some soup. And side dishes are newly setted. I didn't order rice as I didn't want to have it.

Three fat blue crabs are put in the soup. This is a refreshing broth as white radish is put. It is fragrant with crown daisy, and fresh with soybean paste.

Grilled jumbo shrimp is well matched with Spicy blue crab soup. The flesh of juicy crab is so delicious. It is more delicious on site, I think. Maybe I was so hungry after walking all day. :-)

And this is the special service. It is deep-fried halibut. Korean seasoned green onions and the sweet and sour sauce are put on the food. It is awesome. All fried foods are delicious. Some people even say that fried shoes are delicious. Haha.



You must eat grilled jumbo shrimp in Daeha festival. There are only three Daeha festivals in Korea, and the festival in Anmyeondo island is the biggest. Some people say season food is a tonic. You would be happy with sweet Deaha!
