Ganworam Hermitage : Ganwoldo Island 1 gil 119-29, Buseok-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do
Ganworam Hermitage is located in a small island in Ganwoldo-ri, Buseok-myeon, Seosan-si. The great monk Moohak, the monk of the first king of the Joseon Dynasty, Yi Seong-gye, built it. It was named Ganworam after Moohak had found enlightenment while looking at the moon here.
The small temple built by the great monk Moohak in the early Joseon dynasty period was gradually destroyed. Song Man-gong built the temple again in the site and called it Ganworam. The great monk Moohak send salted oysters with hot pepper to Yi Seong-gye, and it became the food for a King. Oyster festival is held in front of the Oyster monument in every 15th of January.
The portraits of high priests of Buddhism including Moohak are hanging in Buddhist sanctuary. The small temple turns into a small island in flood tide. The glow of the setting sun of the west sea gives great impression on tourists. Encyclopedia
To exaggerate, it is a Mont saint michel of Korea. The temple is located in the small island.
But I think promoting Protestantism in the sacred place of Buddhism is impolite.
