Goonhang village has a number of modern cultural assets. “Wonhaeru” is located there, and it has been operated for 60 years. It was open in 1656 by the first generation of overseas Chinese. The president Chiang Kai-shek had a meal after the conference. It was the filming site of “General's son 2”. Okay, here we go!

Most buildings in Goonhang village were built between 1910 and 1920. But this building was built in 1949. Japanese traditional buildings were built in the area. Now, I am going to go inside.

There is a small hall at the entrance, and several rooms inside. In the past, people spent night at restaurants. I think ondol was installed every floors.

The menu is so old. All Chinese restaurants had that menu in my childhood. Anyways, Wonhaeru is famous for jajangmyeon. Those who served a military service in Jinhae would once have it. The restaurant was broadcasted in TV program “Sooyo misichoe”. So I ordered gan jajangmyeon, Fried Dumplings and Gochoo jjamppong. They cost 6,000 won, 5,000 won and 7,000 won respectively.

Chinese foods are served very quickly. But Gochoo jjamppong took a time to be served even though it was not crowded. I was so surprised with the size. Gochoo jjamppong was put in a large bowl.

There is a reason for that. The food consists of large, various and many solid ingredients. There are various vegetables like mushroom, paprika, pumpkin and bamboo shoot. Sea foods like shrimp and squeeze are appetizing. But the noodles were common.

The soup of jjamppong is the point. But it was a little bland. The chef would forget about salting. But every people enjoyed Gochoo jjamppong so much. It tasted much better after I put two spoons of soy sauce. I think the food is for local people. It would be a little bland for people from other regions. But the soup is light and clean.

This is fried dumplings. It is hand-made. I really like hand-made dumplings. My mouth was watering when I took a picture. :-)

The main ingredients are chives and meat. It tastes good when you eat it with soy sauce mixed with vinegar. Instant dumpling skin becomes like a snack after being fried. But hand-made dumpling skin is moist and crispy. Hand-made is good.

Lastly, “gan jajangmyeon” has been served. It is the most famous menu in Wonhaeru. Generally, soft-boiled egg is put on jajangmyeon in Gyeongsang Provinces.

Usually, jajangmyeon is made of fried chunjang and starch. But gan jajangmyeon is not made of starch, so it is deep. Fried chunjang stimulated my appetite. The ingredients of gan jajangmyeon are plentiful, too. They are onions, cabbages, meat and chives.

The first taste was good. Well made chunjang was a little bitter but aromatic. The last taste of chunjang is generally sweet in local Chinese restaurants. But that of Wonhaeru is not sweet but deep and aromatic. The combination of a little bitter chunjang and soft-boiled egg was amazing.


However, except to the reputation of the Chinese restaurant with a long history, the restaurant is not special. The foods were good. Chunjang was delicious, but noodles and ingredients were common. There would be pros and cons. Anyways, it's not bad to have it. :-)
