“Seongjusan National Recreation Forest”, which is given by forest and valley to us
There are two national recreation forests in Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do. One is Seongjusan national recreation forest run by Boryeong-si, and the other is Oseosan national recreation forest run by national forestry administration. Two places are distinctive. Seongjusan shows off Hwajanggol valley and thick retinispora forest, and Oseosan is famous for its silver grass field. I think that Seongjusan national recreation forest is perfect in Summer, because it has beautiful valley and thick retinispora forest. (I am not saying that Oseosan is unattractive)

Parking my car in a parking lot, I can easily listen the sound of falling water of the valley and feel
refreshed. The dense forest is so cool because sunlight cannot come through anywhere.

Water is clean and transparent. Valley is so cool under the shade. When you enter a deep forest, you can find a dense forest which is dark even in the daytime.

The bottom of the valley is made of pebble, so I don't feel pain in my bare feet and it is not slippery. It seems suitable to enjoy natural learning with children.

There is low wooden bench under the shadow of trees, so it is good to swim in the water and take a break.

The trees are making a shadow everywhere; on the street, in the valley, on the low wooden bench
and a camp tent. I think “shadow” is the most perfect word that stands for Seongjusan National Recreation Forest.

Human beings didn't touch the valley, but small waterfall has been created. Listening a sound of water can be a great diversion in Summer. I liked the sea in the past, but love the valley these days. Is that why many middle-aged men leave for mountains or valleys?

There are two ways of lodging; one is renting a house in forest, and the other is setting up a tent in campground. Even though you decide to use a tent, it wouldn't be a big problem. You can use
a shower room, a cafeteria, a big pool and even electricity. You don't need to worry about water since mineral water in this area has the best quality.

Now, I am going to visit the retinispora forest along with a beautiful road. The real name of the road is “phytoncide path” that is about seven hundred meters.

Retinispora forest would be a big proud of Seongjusan national recreation forest. Most trees are about fifty years old, and they line along with the phytoncide path.

There are three main woodland path Seongjusan national recreation forest; the trail cling to the valley from an entrance to a management office, the Jadeurak road(600m) connecting between the first resting place and lawn plaza and the phytoncide path(650m) connecting among the forest house, the phytoncide path and lawn plaza. These are cool in summer, full with fallen leaves in fall and covered with snow in winter. They are so beautiful.

After taking a break on a bench, I can see some detailed shape of forest. You may be attacked by mosquito in forest. Fortunately, I am not attacked.

It is a really good place to kick back, as there are a number of benches. There are many people who take a nap on low wooden benches. You think that there would be a lot of mosquito, right?
Amazingly, however, there are few mosquito in summer since retinispora express plenty of phytoncide, a special anti-fugal substance. In Russian, phytoncide is a compound word of “Phyton” and “Cide”, and is emitted usually from 10 am to 2 pm.

There are three trails to the top of Seongjusan. You can make a round trip within about three hours. Clean water, fresh air and cool forest shadows. It is the perfect place to escape the heat in summer. There are few slippery mos on pebbles, so it is good to have fun in the water with children. I recommend you.
